Another actor has been chosen for the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One, the upcoming spinoff from the numbered movies being directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters).
It’s being reported that Diego Luna is in talks for one of the film’s roles. So long as the deal gets worked out, he will join a cast that already includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises, The Place Beyond the Pines), and Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, Nightcrawler).
Here’s a brief synopsis for Rogue One:
A rogue band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy in the Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One.
Who Luna would be playing in the movie has not yet been revealed, but it is said to be one of the lead roles alongside Jones, Ahmed, and Mendelsohn, who is said to be playing the main villain of the movie. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay) is also said to be in talks for a role.
The report says that Star Wars: Rogue One will feature an ensemble cast along the same lines as The Dirty Dozen and Saving Private Ryan, so expect more casting announcements soon.
Star Wars: Rogue One is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016, about a year after the release of the highly anticipated release of Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens on December 18th of this year. The second spinoff has been confirmed to center on Boba Fett.
