BAADASSSSS!   |

Captain America: Civil War

Less than one year from now, Marvel Studios in unleashing Captain America: Civil War, a multi-superhero epic event of a motion picture that could be even bigger than Avengers: Age of Ultron (but will likely be dwarfed by the two-part Avengers: Infinity War). Principal photography commenced not long ago, and thanks to JoBlo some possible details regarding the plot of Civil War and how the galaxy of Marvel heroes involved will be outfitted for action have leaked.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

First on the docket is how Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, will be involved in the events of Civil War, as it will be the character’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the plot of the film will focus on the rift between Cap (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) over the government’s Superhero Registration Act and the other defenders of the planet and protectors of justice being forced to choose sides in the debate and the battle that follows, Black Panther will be on his own mission independent of the main conflict. His costume will come with a protective shroud of Vibranium, the rare metal that can only be found in his home country of Wakanda and is also the material of which Cap’s trademark shield is made.

As described in the JoBlo article, the Panther will initially be on the side of Stark (though that could change) and “in the showdown between Cap and Panther we’ll see him scratching Cap’s shield easily and his prowess will prove to be a viable threat to Rogers.” He’ll also be given his own Panther jet, which has been talked of as “Stark-like” in its design and construction.

Meanwhile, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will don a costume that resembles the Earth-616 incarnation of the character, with more “purple and flair” in addition to “a full right sleeve.”

Ant-Man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is getting his own fancy new superhero duds which will be “more modern/techno stylish” than outfit he wears in his first solo film, said to be closer in design to what Hank Pym wore in the 1960s as the original Ant-Man. Lang will very likely be taking Captain America’s anti-registration side and take on the Giant-Man form (approximately 15-20 ft. in height) during the battle against Iron Man and his pro-registration forces.

Don Cheadle‘s James Rhodes, now a full-fledged Avenger, will join the fight in a “tank-style” version of the War Machine armor and will also be packing a cool new weapon that will serve a dual function “as a shoulder cannon/gun that can also be detached and used as a kind of warhammer/baton.”

Another new Avenger is also being thrown into the fray of Civil War, and this time the Falcon, a.k.a. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), will be sporting a costume enhanced by wrist lasers and grappling hooks. Redwing, the scarlet falcon that Wilson shared a telepathic link with and proved to be a worthy companion and sidekick in the comics, will appear in the film as well, but in a much different form. The Redwing of Civil War will be a robotic drone that might resemble a bird but will not be linked to the Falcon except possibly through an external device.

Finally, there’s the Sentinel of Liberty himself. Captain America’s red, white, and blue costume will be upgraded through the addition of chain mail armor, bringing the iconic suit closer to its classic comic book incarnation.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and co-starring Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Emily VanCamp, Sebastian Stan, Martin Freeman, Frank Grillo, Daniel Brühl, and William Hurt, Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
