Scarlett Couture #4 is the final chapter in the first of, what I hope to be, many many mini-series to come from Titan Comics! This series has been a fun, exciting, roller coaster ride since issue 1. So, the question is, how does the last issue measure up? Is it a fitting end to the series? Let’s talk about it…

For all the past three issues, I’ve gone on and on about Des Taylor the artist. BUT, I really should’ve spent some of that time talking about Des Taylor the writer. As a writer, Taylor is fantastic! He definitely knows how to craft a story and plot things out at a fast, but not furious pace.

For the final installment, there’s a few mysteries that get cleared up. A few, but not all, which is nice because it leaves something that can be dealt with further in future issues. This issue really has it all. It’s a bit of a standalone story, yet continues the narrative that’s gone on for the past three issues. It wraps up everything, but not too tightly, so we pretty much know this isn’t the end of Scarlett Couture.

Artistically, it’s another grand slam for Des Taylor. I think I’ve run out of words to describe just how gorgeous Taylor’s art is. It’s like a lush animated movie in comic book form. Almost every panel could be a pin-up, but yet Taylor makes them tell a story, and all the pages have a great flow to them, making it very easy to follow the action. Another total win for this book!

For my money, this is going to go up as one of my favorite mini-series of the year. Yes, it’s that good. I love spy comics a LOT, so that makes me a little extra picky when it comes to the drama. A lot of times, people who are writing spy comics try to just write a comic that will be turned into a movie. For Scarlett Couture, this is not the case. It’s a comic book because it WANTS to be. I can’t recommend this issue — and this mini-series — highly enough!
