Star Wars: The Force Awakens Millennium Falcon

There is no doubt that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to be one of the biggest films of 2015. Seeing the excitement throughout the fan conventions and reaction to the trailers prove that this is just one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. And now it is about to get even bigger.

We’ve already known that director J.J. Abrams shot a desert scene using IMAX cameras, so it is going to be something worth the extra amount of money. But just in case you are worried about missing it because of a limited run on IMAX, you don’t need to worry, because a new report says that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has booked every IMAX screen in North America for a full month. More on the story below.

THR was the first to confirm that news.

Reserving all of the IMAX screens isn’t something entirely new, but it is unusual. The report adds that the last time a single film booked all the IMAX screens for an entire month was the Hobbit trilogy.

There are about 375 to 400 IMAX screens around the United States, plus 400 more around foreign countries. We should assume that this includes all IMAX screens, including the ones in museums like the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

While this may be a cause for celebration, other films that can be seen on IMAX will get a very limited run. Warner Bros.’ In the Heart of the Sea, will get only a one week IMAX run on December 11, while Fox’s The Revenant will make its IMAX debut on January 15, one week after its theatrical release.

IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster told THR, “Star Wars: Episode VII is the ultimate crossover movie “” it crosses over to everyone.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Max von Sydow, and returning alum Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker. Disney has scheduled the film for a December 18, 2015 theatrical release.

So how many times are you going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX?
