Last week on Minority Report, we delved into the pre-cogs’ post pre-crime past on the island of Fiddler’s Neck. Agatha (Laura Regan) is still seeing vision of betrayal where her and her psychic twin brothers end up back in a government milkbath. Dash (Stark Sands) is convinced Detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good) will never turn on him, while the wildcard here is Arthur (Nick Zano) whose allegiance appears up for bids most of the time. It’s Arthur who creates the big problems on this week’s episode. There is also some shady behind the stage dealings going on. Lt. Blake (Wilmer Valderrama) is offered a DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) job and his vetting process may give away Dash’s involvement in the success of Hawk-Eye, the new predictive policing program.

Spoilers below.

We open with flashbacks to the three pre-cogs being released. DIA Director Blomfeld (Reed Diamond) is annoyed by letting them go; “My agency had plans for them.” Jumping ahead and Vega and Dash show up late to prevent a murder. That’s actually refreshing. Too many times on these type of shows, you get the feeling the cops catch EVERY killer or criminal and never screw up. Arthur, meanwhile, is getting involved in his usual shady dealings. Dash is the idealistic twin, trying to save everyone, and it bleeds into the acting as Sands comes off desperate and panicked all the time. Zano on the other hand plays Arthur so cool and collected. I mentioned last week he reminds me of Sawyer from LOST and that comparison holds again this week. When Dash is particularly demanding of a name of the deceased, Arthur gives him a name… of a masseuse.

Instead Dash goes to investigate the murder and cue Admiral Ackbar… “IT’S A TRAP!!!” Dash is kidnapped by goons and it turns out Arthur knows the parties involved. The man in charge is Luca Van Zant (Peter Macon), “the top of the felon food chain.” Arthur gets a sit-down with Van Zant who informs him that the guy who Dash was investigating was a banker who laundered money for him. The tab for Dash’s release is the $50 million that disappeared with the banker’s death. Who stole the money? Well, that would be Arthur, who after his confession is met by a stiff jab by Vega.

“Why are people always hitting me?”

“Because you give them a reason to!”

Arthur goes to negotiate and receives proof of life. Unfortunately for Dash, that means having 9 of something he previously had 10 of. Dash uses his visions to coax the goons against one another and send “smoke signals” to Arthur. When all is resolved, we get a tender moment between the brothers, and an interesting exchange between Arthur and Vega:

“Kiss goodbye?”

“How about another right hook?”

“She didn’t say no,” as he smirks away.

This episode gave us some background into Arthur and why he deviates so much from the others. Nick Zano is my favorite part of the show. He is the cool, bad boy type, but manages to convey emotion as well. His character is the most realistic to me of the three pre-cogs, and has the most potential. We know Agatha wants to remain out of the picture, and Dash is the consummate good guy, but Arthur has done and may do literally anything. It makes his character unpredictable and awesome.

Another Minority Report episode gone, and more wondering on why this show hasn’t caught on faster with viewers. It’s got the action, quirky dialogue, and fun characters of most police shows, with the added futuristic sci-fi elements. They consistently throw in nods about the gap between now and the 2065 future. Last week, they brought up global warming creating islands; this week, tequila is a thing of the past as the “desert swallowed up agave plants.” Little things like that make the show more interesting. The next episode promises huge developments as Blake discovers the secret they’ve all been hiding.

You’ll have to wait two weeks though as Minority Report returns Monday night, November 16th at 9:00pm ET on FOX.
