The Mountain From ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spars With UFC Star Conor McGregor (Video)

Hafthor Bjornsson in Game of Thrones

Hafthór Björnsson became famous for playing Ser Gregor Clegane, “The Mountain That Rides,” on season four of HBO’s Game of Thrones—the third actor to play the role (previously played by Conan Stevens in season one and Ian Whyte in season two)—culminating in an epic battle to the death with Prince Oberyn Martell, “The Red Viper.” But while the character he plays on Thrones is an awful beast of a man, it’s what he’s done off the small screen that has truly endeared him to the masses such as breaking 1,000-year-old viking weightlifting records while dominating strongman competitions or just being plain awesome for the kids.

Now Hafthor is taking on one of the UFC’s up and coming superstars, current interim Featherweight division titleholder Conor McGregor. The two sparred together recently, and you can see the video of their session below.

While McGregor is a world class fighter, this is definitely a David and Goliath situation with Conor weighing in at around 145 pounds while Bjornsson tips the scales at about 400 pounds, 135 pounds heavier than the current Heavyweight division limit of 265 pounds. Which is why they need to get a Super Heavyweight division going!

Conor McGregor finally faces longtime Featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 194 on Saturday, December 12 after an injury postponed their first scheduled bout. Sparring with a dude as big as The Mountain won’t help much with that fight, but it can’t hurt to work on your wrestling and grappling with a human this large.

Either way, McGregor’s meeting with Aldo is without a doubt a fight that is not to be missed if you’re a fight fan.
