Xbox’s Free Games With Gold Lineup For May 2016

Xbox Games With Gold

One of the very best decisions that console makers Microsoft and Sony have made, is to offer free games to those who are members of their Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus programs each month. Hundreds of dollars worth of games for free each year. It makes the pill that is having to pay to play (online) much, much easier to swallow.

The four free games being offered to Xbox players for Games With Gold May 2016 have been revealed, and you can see what they are below along with information on each of the four titles.

While the current month is arguably one of the best months for free games we’ve seen yet, next month will be one of the weaker months unfortunately. That’s not to say these games are bad, but they’re obviously nowhere near the same level of games we got in April.

Hopefully it’s not a sign of things to come. PlayStation’s free games for their PlayStation Plus members have been consistently poor for a while now, and it would be sad to see Xbox start to follow suit.

Following our blockbuster April lineup, Games with Gold keeps going strong in May with four entertaining new games. As with last month, Xbox One will get two dedicated titles, and two Xbox 360 titles, as well, through Xbox One Backward Compatibility, for a total of four completely free titles thanks to Games with Gold.

May brings Defense Grid 2, a tower defense gem from the folks at Hidden Path Entertainment & 505 Games – followed by the quirky and endlessly charming, Costume Quest 2 from Double Fine Productions and Majesco. On the Xbox 360, Xbox Live Gold members start the month with Codemasters’ high-speed dynamic racer GRID 2, followed by EA’s ever-popular puzzle classic: Peggle.

As usual, all games are available only for a limited time, as part of the ongoing Games with Gold program, so sign up now to get in on the action!

* Defense Grid 2 ($14.99 ERP): Available from May 1-31 on Xbox One

* Costume Quest 2 ($14.99 ERP): Available from May 16-June 15 on Xbox One

* GRID 2 ($24.99 ERP): Available from May 1-15 on Xbox 360

* Peggle ($9.99 ERP): Available from May 16-31 on Xbox 360

The next evolution of tower defense arrives with Defense Grid 2, bringing new additions and strategies that will force you to think and adapt on the fly. With dynamic content that changes gameplay and millions of ways to beat a level, your victories are your own, and you can always come back for more. With cooperative and competitive game modes to boot, you’ll have plenty to explore in this sci-fi strategy game.

On May 16th, play as one of two heroic twins who must save Halloween in Costume Quest 2. Seek out candy and costumes with turn-based battles that always feel fresh, and fight against time to stop Dr. Orel White from taking over the world.

On Xbox 360 (and Xbox One via backward compatibility), start off May in style behind the wheel in GRID 2. With stunning visuals, tracks spanning the globe and the thrilling TrueFeel handling system, you’ll be able to race with confidence and flair. Pick your car – choose from a variety of vehicles spanning four decades, from classic favorites to modern supercars – then blaze your way to the top of a new world of motorsport.

From dazzling speed to soothing puzzles, come back on May 16 for the peg-busting, ball-bouncing fun of the PopCap classic, Peggle. Spanning over 50 levels, with mystical powers, multiplayer face-offs, and loads and loads of bonus points, Peggle is pure entertainment.
