One of the greatest of the original Star Wars Expanded Universe characters is being reintroduced into canon when Grand Admiral Thrawn debuts on the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Watch the new 3 1/2-minute Season 3 trailer here below for Star Wars Rebels, which provides the first look at Thrawn on the series, as well as images from the upcoming season.
The character was first introduced in the 1991 Timothy Zahn novel Star Wars: Heir To The Empire in the pre-Disney days of Star Wars, which is now known as the “Legends” series, aka non-canon and therefore no longer considered official stories of the franchise.
Disney and Lucasfilm are now wise enough to bring the blue-skinned, red-eyed Imperial leader back into official storytelling in the animated show, as well as into a new novel by Zahn called Thrawn.
The part of Grand Admiral Thrawn on Rebels is voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, whose is the brother of Mads Mikkelsen, who will be seen next in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
It was revealed during this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration Europe in London that Zahn was brought on to consult on the character.
This is great news for fans of the original Star Wars EU, as Thrawn was definitely a favorite and a standout.
