Rumor: Batman Solo Film Starring Ben Affleck May Take Place In Arkham Asylum

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It really wouldn’t be much of a Comic-Con without a few rumors floating around, and there will be plenty this year with Warner Bros. preparing to showcase their upcoming DCEU films at Hall H this year. Oddly enough, this rumor doesn’t surround Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, or even the upcoming Justice League, which is currently shooting. No, this rumor centers on the untitled Batman solo flick starring Ben Affleck, which is currently under development.

With Affleck and Geoff Johns currently penning the script, and fans waiting to hear whether or not if the former will direct, many of the plot points that have been circulating have been nothing but rumor and speculation. But that isn’t stopping any of us from enjoying it all, especially since this latest rumor is just too good to ignore. Word is that the next solo Batman film will take place in Arkham Asylum. If you have been following these rumors, then it makes sense. More on the story below.

The latest rumor comes to us from Batman On Film, who provided this quote regarding the latest rumor that the film would take place in DC’s most notorious prison:

According to this rumor, the solo Batfleck Batflick would involve Batman being locked up in Arkham. For what reason? I have no idea. For how long? No idea on that either. But, it does jibe with the buzz about “a lot of Batman villains” possibly being included in Mr. Affleck’s solo Batman film. Such a storyline would be very different from what we’ve seen in the previous Batman movies as well.

As you can see in the quote, “it does jibe with the buzz about ‘a lot of Batman villains’ possibly being included in Mr. Affleck’s solo Batman film.” That rumor actually popped up a few months back. Now it wasn’t clear who would be chosen to play these villains, but looking at who WB was able to cast in Suicide Squad, I’m sure with a great script, they will be able to sign a few big names. Based on what is being reported WB wants to make “the definitive Batman film.” Now, we haven’t seen too many of the Dark Knight’s villains, mostly Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and Deadshot. That opens the door for many others, so it should be fun to see who ends up being in the film, if that is going to be the premise of it. And let’s remember, we still don’t know what role he has to play in Suicide Squad, so who knows what other villains are being left out of the picture that could re-emerge in future films.

Remember, this is just a rumor, so we should just take this with a grain of salt. And it’s not like the story hasn’t been explored before. A few years back, WB released an animated movie that saw the Suicide Squad infiltrate Arkham Asylum, with the Batman conducting his own investigation. Of course since it took place in such a recognizable detention center, it only makes sense that we see other Batman baddies make cameos. Then there was the video game, which saw Joker turn the prison into a mad house.

It’s hard to believe that WB would be talking about the Batman film so soon, especially since they will probably talking more about Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad, and probably a little bit about Justice League, since that film is in the middle of production.

No word yet on when the film will be released.
