Nocturnal Animals starring Amy Adams

Focus Features has released the first trailer for Nocturnal Animals starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Directed by Tom Ford (A Single Man), the film is an adaptation Tony and Susan by Austin Wright that tells a story of love and revenge from two different perspectives, one from the point of view of Adam’s character who committed an unbelievable act of betrayal while the other focuses on Gyllenhaal’s character who has written a book about said betrayal and dedicated it to his estranged wife. Check out the full trailer below.

On the surface, the film looks to be a he-said-she-said story that will constantly switch back and forth telling their story to further the narrative. Each of them having more than just a few skeletons in their closet, the film looks to engage its audience with unraveling the truths about these characters not once revealing who is at fault or the victim but rather exploiting their dark nature.

The film was recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it has been met with favorable reviews. Michael Shannon looks exceptionally strong in this, but I’m more interested in seeing what Aaron-Taylor Johnson has to offer considering he’s best known for his roles in Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Godzilla.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in NOCTURNAL ANIMALS.

Nocturnal Animals also stars Isla Fisher, Karl Glusman, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney, Andrea Riseborough, and Michael Sheen. It opens in limited release on November 18 before expanding nationwide on December 9.
