Star Wars: The Force Awakens made some key changes to the dark faction we once knew as The Empire. Now known as the First Order, the group also added a few changes to the stormtroopers’ armor and weaponry and even gave a few high ranking ones a shiny chrome look.
Now it looks like we will be seeing more variations of the stormtrooper in the yet-to-be-titled Star Wars: Episode VIII. According to new rumors, a new never before seen stormtrooper will appear in the movie, but will still retain some similarities. Check out the full details on this rumor below.
The news comes to us from MakingStarWars.net, who says an inside source tells them that there was a stormtrooper on set that was being referred to as The Executioner. According to the site, he will have a matte black line that goes over half his mask on one side that sets him apart. His signature weapon will be somewhat like FN-2199’s (or as fans have called him, TR-8R) baton-like weapon, except that this one will have rotating blades at the end. They have likened this weapon to that of the one that is seen in Phantasm. A shield has also been spotted on set, but the site has been unable to confirm whether or not he will use it in the film. Another rumor is that Finn will face The Executioner.
Now I suggest you head on over to the site to get an “idea” of what this Executioner could look like in the film. Again, this is just a rumor, so take this bit of news with a grain of salt.
That being said, if such an addition is being made, it could be that audiences will be seeing another class of stormtrooper much like how The Force Awakens introduced us to the flametroopers. So even then, Executioner could be just code used on set, with the official name being revealed at a later time. Or perhaps this stormtrooper isn’t just one person like Captain Phasma, but a squad.
Finally, the site says the regular stormtroopers will also have a few changes. According to them, “one notable difference is that the mouthpiece is said to have become more like the mouth piece on the Original Trilogy stormtrooper helmet.” It should be interesting to see if any of these rumors are true.
Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII will open in theaters on December 15, 2017
