With Preacher on AMC, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg already have a comic book adaptation they’re involved with. Robert Kirkman has lots of comic books, two of which have been adapted into TV series: AMC’s mega-hit zombie drama The Walking Dead (not to mention its spinoff Fear the Walking Dead), which are also on AMC, and Outcast on Cinemax.

Now this trio is set to join forces for a new project at Universal Pictures. Rogen and Goldberg are set to write, direct, and produce a movie adaptation of Kirkman’s second longest-running comic book series behind The Walking Dead, titled Invincible, with Kirkman also producing through his Skybound Entertainment.

Invincible was created by Kirkman along with Ryan Ottley and Cory Walker.

Of the announcement, Kirkman said:

“For nearly a decade I’ve had to endure the “˜what about Invincible?’ question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multimedia monstrosity it has become over the years. The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit.

Invincible’s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands. With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.”

Rogen and Goldberg also released a statement, saying:

“No matter how much damage it causes our bodies, minds, and our most intimate relationships with those we love, we will not rest until Invincible is as great a movie as it deserves to be.”

Rogen and Goldberg have worked together numerous times in the past, including directing the apocalyptic comedy This is the End and The Interview together. They then directed multiple episodes of Preacher and are currently directing and executive producing a series for Hulu titled Future Man.

Kirkman announced last August that his Invincible comic series would be coming to an end, so it’s a good time to see how it will fare in movie form.
