Last week on Gotham, Kathryn (Leslie Hendrix) stole Barnes (Michael Chiklis) out of Arkham for his virus blood. She charged Dr. Strange (BD Wong) with creating a version that was transmutable through the air. Jim (Ben McKenzie) was in good with the Court of Owls, tested when Kathryn wanted to infect a roomful of people. He failed the test when he got Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) to help rescue them. Ivy found Selina (Maggie Geha, Camren Bicondova) in the hospital and cured her with her special plants. Selina ran to kill Bruce 2 (David Mazouz). Kathryn set Barnes after Jim. The Court kidnapped Penguin and put him in a cage next to Nygma (Cory Michael Smith).

Spoilers below.

Gotham 3.19 “Heroes Rise: All Will Be Judged” review: Penguin comes face to face with Nygma in the cages, “More cockroach than Penguin.” For a second, Nygma thinks he might be hallucinating, but no…

The alarm goes off in Wayne manor. Selina comes and trades blows and banter with Bruce 2. Alfred (Sean Pertwee) goes to stop her, but when she shouts that he’s not Bruce, he believes her.

“Bruce is serving a greater purpose than himself, as am I.” He knocks Alfred out.

Lee (Morena Baccharin) was dreaming of Mario feeding her the virus. Don’t do it Leslie. Lee visits the Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel), who greets her with a rhyme. Love him! She asks why he infected Mario, instead of her. Her love for Jim doomed Mario. It turned that love to hate, and it’s really Lee who is to blame. Lee confronts Jim, but confuses him. She shoots herself with the virus. Aw man… Jim is going to blame himself for not paying more attention. He really should have.

Jim and Bullock (Donal Logue) look over schematics for the virus bomb. They think they found a secret basement. They also think Jim is still in good with the court. Poor Harvey. They never get to search a fun place, like “a brewery, strip joint.” Barnes shows up in a leather and metal and anger costume. He takes Jim.

Ed shoots a dart into Penguin. As he tries to escape, Penguin smashes a metal tray with all the drugged energy he can muster, before he succumbs, ruining Ed’s plan.

Bruce has to put the pain of his parent’s death into his brain safe. He can’t do it. The next vision is the shaman’s (Raymond J. Barry) memory. Bruce sees him punish the man who killed his parents. He wants Bruce to help him take down the court. “Will you help me?”

Kathryn questions Jim.

“When the clock stops and Gotham falls.” Barnes starts Jim’s trial. He speaks of the good they could have done together. Jim counters by telling him what the court plans, but Barnes doesn’t think the virus is bad. Jim stalls long enough to be rescued by the GCPD.

Alfred goes to Jim to find the real Bruce. He brings back pieces of the owl, and then rushes into the room where Jim is questioning Kathryn. He stabs her, “I’m a butler.” He is so badass! Barnes bursts in. She demands he save her. Holy shit!!! He beheads her. Jim shoots Barnes’s hand off and then knocks him out.

Penguin wakes up. He and Ed decide to escape together – “no murder on the premises.” They trick the guards with fake blood and escape. They still have a window. Ed thinks Penguin is alone, and is soon corrected.

Bruce puts the symbolic pearls in the safe. “I feel nothing.” Bruce is the perfect weapon.

Whoa! This episode was bonkers! From Kathryn’s head rolling to Lee’s virus eyes, it was a non-stop adrenaline ride. I need a nap just watching it. The finale promises to be an insane battle for Gotham – the freaks vs the criminals vs the GCPD.

Some thoughts and questions:

– I really hope Kathryn saw this coming. Nobody with their finger on the pulse of Gotham’s disease, could be surprised at their own violent death.

– How different is the new Selina?

– How will they get Bruce back in his right mind?

– Can we please have a cure for this virus?

– More Jervis, thanks.

Three episode left!

Gotham airs Monday nights at 8:00pm ET on FOX.
