Lip Sync Battle Stranger Things

Lip Sync Battle has become a television staple on Spike TV drawing celebrities into outrageous battles where they mouth the lyrics to hit songs while living out real life music videos. Based off the hilarious sketch on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, LSB has hosted top celebrities from Dwayne The Rock Johnson, to Channing Tatum, to Oscar winner Anne Hathaway doing a legendary turn on the wrecking ball for a Miley Cyrus cover. On May 25th, hosts LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen welcomed the cast of one of 2016’s biggest breakout hits, Netflix’s Stranger Things. Instead of a one on one showdown where each performer “sings” twice, this time it was a fatal 4-way featuring Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson) and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair) each performing one lip sync hit. For fans of Stranger Things and Lip Sync Battle, this was as entertaining an episode of TV you can get.

Check out some of the performances below.

First off was Finn Wolfhard who performed 90s alternative classic “Buddy Holly” by Weezer complete with hideous yellow sweater. Next up was Schnapp who channeled the look of an older generation, dressing like the titular Stones singer while performing Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger.” He even had fake tattoos and was shockingly faithful to Mick’s crazy dance style. All the while, the highlight of the show was watching how into each routine the kids themselves were. The three non-performers; despite the “battle” atmosphere could not help laughing hysterically and relentlessly cheer on their cast mates. You can tell how close these kids have grown, especially with season 2 in the works.

If Finn and Noah got the show off to a great start, it was then stolen by Gaten and Caleb. Gaten was all over the stage for Train’s “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” and his facial expressions were just perfect throughout. Then Caleb McLaughlin came out and crushed LL’s own “I’m Bad” dressed as a mini version of the host. LL could only marvel at the performance. It should be noted that one of the highlights was Chrissy Teigen who during the first half, was dressed as Barb (Shannon Purser) and then by the end was dressed as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), complete with nosebleed and Eggos.

This was one of the most fun things I’ve watched on TV in a long time. The kids are obviously best friends, getting along so well, and that just makes me more excited for Stranger Things season 2. Season 2 begins streaming on Netflix on Halloween 2017. Lip Sync Battle is on Spike TV Thursday nights at 10:00.
