Joe is a junkie, a dead mobster’s son whose life is spiraling down the drain. His wife is on the verge of leaving him, and somewhere he cares, until the need for the next fix pulls him back down. But it seems his luck is about to change. He is saved from death by an angel, and the surprise is not that angels exist, but that Joe already knew that. Angel blood gives the best high, and thanks to his family history with the angelic, he knows how to use this one to turn his life around. Amidst this are the warring heavenly and hellish factions – on one side there is Michael, free to roam Earth untracked, and on the other Belial, thrown out of heaven and taking it out on disgusting humans. They are not the only beings you meet, but you’ll have to read on to see.

Though the Brightest Fell is a quick read, almost too quick. I have always been fascinated with anything that has to do with angelic lore. This story swirled extreme violence, ethereal beauty, an incredible love story (more than one!), and an old school Brooklyn mob tale. It’s like all of my favorite things rolled into one book. The cherry on top was that her story was set in Gravesend, Brooklyn where I grew up. I mean, only people from the neighborhood know what a fixture the now-shuttered Wrong Number bar was. I walked the familiar pavement with Joe, and saw his sights in my memory.

The language paints a gruesome picture at times, but it is important and enhances the movement of the very compelling plot. There are also a couple of surprises waiting for you in here.

I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Official Synopsis:

Joe DeFalco’s life is spinning out of control. A born loser, addicted to drugs and living in the past, it would take a miracle to save him. Enter a miracle; an angel who changes his life forever. With a wife at her wit’s end, a fallen angel who hates all humans (especially Joe) and God’s fiercest warrior on his heels, Joe finds himself caught in a, literal, war between good and evil and in a race to save the life of the person he loves most in the world. From ancient Jerusalem and the crucifixion to Rome and an unexpected foe and, finally, to Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY for the final show-down, Joe’s journey is a heart-stopping, action packed thrill ride that will leave the reader gasping for air and begging for more. “Though the Brightest Fell” has everything a reader wants in a good story; heart-stopping suspense, gut-wrenching chills and enough twists and turns to guarantee the story stays with the reader long after the novel ends.
