The Moment Of Truth
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Francisco Rosi
Starring Miguel Mateo
The Criterion Collection
Release date: January 24, 2012
Some of the best things come in the smallest of packages. And this goes for most things ranging from a present given on a birthday or a new DVD release.
Continuing in Criterion’s recent run of releasing DVD and Blu-ray packages with few to no special features for $10 less than their normal counterparts, the company has given the world a cavalcade of underseen masterpieces from some of cinema’s greatest artists. Be it Antonioni’s Identification Of Woman, or last month’s release of The Moment Of Truth from auteur Francesco Rosi, Criterion may have shocked fans with these feature-free releases, but they’ve also given us wonderful films. And as mentioned above, Truth is absolutely no different [...]

 |
Posted by Cinemumra | February 21st, 2012 at 9:27 pm |

As a huge fan of single setting films, and an even bigger fan of those with a thriller bend (like say, Buried), one of the more interesting little films coming out relatively soon is the indie thriller Brake.
The film stars Stephen Dorff, and finds our lead trapped inside of a car trunk, kidnapped by a group of terrorists looking to take out the President. Directed by Gabe Torres, Brake looks to be quite intense, and while it’s smaller, the film appears to be rather intriguing particularly when one looks at that great cast [...]

 |
Posted by Cinemumra | February 15th, 2012 at 10:00 am |

Okay ladies and gentlemen, I was wrong. I was wrong about the fact that I had previously stated that with the rise of remakes and board game adaptations, Hollywood was all but creatively bankrupt. Nope, it’s this, that’s finally proven they have absolutely no creativity left.
Variety is reporting that the low-budget label over at Paramount, Insurge, is hard at work on a film revolving around that “Ultimate Dog Tease” YouTube video, that spread like wild fire last year. That’s the trajectory for Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel, as he begins to prepare his upcoming Princess Diana biopic, Caught In Flight, now with a brand new actress. Deadline reports that Naomi Watts will be starring in the film, replacing Jessica Chastain. The film is currently being sold at the Berlinale, so more news on this project should be coming fast.
