Movie Review: Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde review header

Atomic Blonde
Director: David Leitch
Screenwriter: Kurt Johnstad
Cast: Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella, Toby Jones
Distributor: Focus Features
Rated R | 115 Minutes
Release Date: July 28, 2017

Usually, when “atomic” is used as an adjective it means something that is propelled by atomic energy. Or if you prefer to use one of Urban Dictionary’s definitions, it’s a “devastating experience of epic proportions from which nothing is salvageable.” So when you have John Wick co-director David Leitch direct Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde, an adaptation of the famed The Coldest City graphic novel, you’d expect something to leave an impact that is befitting its title. But Atomic Blonde is anything but atomic, at least from a narrative standpoint. It’s thin, has very few characters to care about, and casually shoehorns in 80s British pop songs. But if you are looking for a film with some great action and excellent framing, plus the occasional consumption of vodka, then Atomic Blonde is your kind of film.

‘It’ Trailer: This Cursed Town Has Got A Serious Clown Problem
eelyajekiM   |  @   |

Pennywise It Trailer

Clowns are pretty much at the top of the list of things to be afraid of. Though they can bring laughter with slapstick comedy, but one can’t get over the fact that there is something truly terrifying about them as well. Which is why coulrophobia — the fear of clowns — has been popularized in pop culture. And we owe a great deal of thanks to Pennywise from Stephen King‘s novel It for manifesting those fears of clowns.

A brand new adaptation of It, from Mama director Andy Muschietti, is just a few more months away, and now WB has released a new trailer that brings back all those fears we thought we suppressed. Check it out here below.

Lupita Nyong’o Dressed In Cosplay At SDCC, and No One Seemed To Notice
eelyajekiM   |  @   |

Lupita Nyong'o

Anyone who is anyone would know that an actor would probably have a hard time walking amongst the crowd at the San Diego Comic-Con. So most of the stars blend in using some ingenious cosplay. We’ve seen Maisie Williams dress as Spider-Man. John Boyega simply put a Stormtrooper helmet on. And Bryan Cranston dressed as his own Breaking Bad character by putting a Walter White mask on. So if you are at Comic-Con and see someone wearing a mask, you might never know who is behind it.

Case in point, Lupita Nyong’o. The Academy Award-winning actress who played Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and plays Nakia, a member of T’Challa’s personal guard, in Marvel’s Black Panther, took to Comic-Con this past weekend dressed as the pink Power Ranger while wearing a jabberwocky mask with sunglasses, and no one seemed to notice. But she did take a couple of videos to prove that it was her. Check it out here below.

‘Atomic Blonde’ Interview: Director David Leitch On Use Of 80s Music, Stunts, ‘Deadpool 2’
eelyajekiM   |  @   |

Atomic Blonde starring Charlize Theron

Creating killer soundtracks for a film appears to be in very high demand nowadays. From Guardians of the Galaxy to Baby Driver, the way that pop culture music is being used makes it feel as though they are a character in the film itself. And that couldn’t be truer for the upcoming action film Atomic Blonde.

Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, Atomic Blonde takes place just before the fall of the Berlin Wall, with Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) assigned to investigate the murder of a fellow MI6 agent, who was in possession of a top secret list, which in the wrong hands could expose every spy and operative. But as she searches for this elusive list, those working closest to her steer her in the wrong direction, in more ways than one. Without anyone to trust but herself, Lorraine finds out that getting that list and out of Berlin, alive, won’t be easy.

So just imagine the Cold War canvas of bright 80s neon lights with contemporary covers of 80s British pop songs and action sequences that could only come from the mind of John Wick co-director David Leitch. We had a chance to talk to the director about his approach to the film, what he pitched to the producers, his use of music, that incredible one-shot action scene, and Deadpool 2. Check out our full interview with him here below.

Terminator: Genisys

Though James Cameron has his hands full working on those Avatar sequels, he still finds the time to work on other projects. Even if some of those other projects like Battle Angel had to be handed off to a new filmmaker. Well, now you can add a Terminator trilogy to the “will he, won’t he?” list. That’s right, Cameron wants to see a new Terminator trilogy. More on the story below.

Zack Snyder’s Creative Influence In DCEU To Be Significantly Reduced
eelyajekiM   |  @   |

Zack Snyder

Zack Snyder and his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, have been a part of the DCEU creative force since the very beginning. In fact, Zack Snyder has been a major presence having directed Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, some of Suicide Squad, and was an executive producer and/or writer for Wonder Woman and Aquaman. But it appears that the filmmaker’s creative input could be minimized significantly as the DCEU moves forward.

According to new reports, the Snyders “will no longer have anything like the level of creative influence that got the franchise to this point.” More on the story below.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Runtime and When We’ll See A Trailer
eelyajekiM   |  @   |

Avengers: Infinity War

To say that Avengers: Infinity War is the most anticipated superhero film ever would be an understatement. It’s a culmination of everything that Marvel Studios has been working at for the past 10 years. It’s something that nobody thought could ever happen. Yet, here we are. Everyone’s hopes of seeing The Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man joining forces to defeat Thanos finally happening.

We got a first look at the trailer at the D23 Expo a few weeks back, and the footage was shown once more at last weekend’s SDCC. But it’s not likely that the same trailer will ever see the light of day – unless you saw the leaks. So co-director Joe Russo has offered up a vague timetable on when we could see a trailer, plus an idea of how long it could be. And believe me when I say this, it will be one of the longest MCU films. More on these stories here below.
