SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis DVDSpongebob’s Atlantis SquarePantis

The first thing I have to say is that I am a true SpongeBob fan. I have seen every episode of the Nickelodeon cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants, so when I heard there’s was going to be a SpongeBob movie, I was very happy and excited and was looking forward to it. I really didn’t know what to expect and since I didn’t know much about it — aside from finding out the title would be SpongeBob’s Atlantis SquarePantis — I would just have to wait to see the movie. I kept my hopes for it alive while wondering, will the movie be good or will the DVD releases just be all studio hype?

Well, I have to say right off the bat this was no hype job, SpongeBob’s Atlantis SquarePantis was well worth the wait. There are many good things about this movie I liked and appreciated as a fan and an artist. The one thing I didn’t like about it — and I will get that out of the way quickly so I can discuss the good parts — is that it was TOO SHORT. While the movie contained many great messages and the timing had a good flow to it, the movie itself was just too short; I think it could have gone on for at least another twenty or so more minutes.

Discussion: Comic Books as Film
space
Inknstein   |

Comic Book Movie MontageAs I’m sure you’re already aware, we Geeks of Doom are huge lovers of comic books. We all have our favorite superheroes, graphic novels, writers, artists, and publishing companies.

Around my way Marvel vs. DC vs various independents is as heated a discussion as the Yankees vs. the Red Sox vs. the Mets. We’re also gigantic lovers of movies, great and small — live-action, animated, sci-fi, fantasy, noir, etc…

Who here hasn’t read a great comic book series and wondered to themselves, “Why hasn’t anyone done [insert your comic title here] yet? This would make a great film — live action or animated.”

We’d like to here from you on this one, so please let us know the following:

  1. What is your favorite comic book?
  2. Which comic book series would you like to see adapted to film?
  3. Would your choice of comic book movie work better as a live-action or animated film, or both?
  4. Which comic book should have NEVER BEEN or NEVER SHOULD BE made into a movie?

This can apply to any comic book from any country around the world.

Music Review: Beastie Boys ‘The Mix-Up’

Beastie Boys-The Mix-Up
BEASTIE BOYS
The Mix-Up
Capitol

I just want to start off and say to all you Beastie Boys fans you are going to LOVE this CD. If you are a truly hardcore Beastie Boys fan (like myself), you will be amazed and surprised to hear what this CD has and does not have.

First of all, it is an “all instrumental” album, not the typical CD you would think of when you hear “instrumental” and the Beastie Boys in the same sentence. On The Mix-Up, the Beastie Boys go back somewhat to their roots and to playing their instruments again. YES, they know how to play instruments, they knew and could play for years, and if you are a true Beastie Boys fan you already know this.

Watch the video for “The Gala Event” by
the Beastie Boys from The Mix-Up.

Music Review: Arctic Monkeys ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’

Inknstein   |

Arctic MonkeysI just want to start off by stating that I am an Arctic Monkeys fan, I am not one of these Johnny come lately types who jump on the bandwagon when a bands gets a BIG push from the record company. I found these guys a couple of years ago before their first CD was released. I’ve been following them ever since and telling all my friends and anyone who will listen to me (which is not many”¦ha-ha) to check these guys out.

Their latest release is called Favourite Worst Nightmare, which I love as a title for any CD. With any band’s new release I get a little worried if they’ll being consistent and will they stay with the type of music they are known for. Or are they heading in a new direction in their music, but lucky for us Arctic Monkeys are not. They are staying true to their musical roots. They are just evolving as musicians and continue to write and produce great songs. Each CD is getting better and they are finding a niche in this music society. Their music is a nice change to what is coming out today in the music industry and field.

Fiesta Week 2007
space
Inknstein   |

Well, it’s the end of Fiesta in good old San Antonio, TX. Fiesta is a 10-day city-wide annual event held in April when the city goes crazy with parties and music and food.

The city closes down for one day — usually the 1st day of Fiesta which usually falls on a Friday — so the people can go nuts for this party with festivals are held throughout the area in different venues.

My favorite part of Fiesta is the last day and the Fiesta Pooch Parade. This is when all the dog lovers all over San Antonio come out and bring their dogs dressed up for this event. To me, this is the best venue or event of Fiesta, because if you are a dog lover like myself you get to see all types of dogs and get to meet all types of people.
