Universal Pictures premiered a new TV spot for their upcoming release Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, the latest beloved children's book from the venerated author to get the CG-animated film treated, during last night's Super Bowl.

You can watch the TV spot here below.

Featuring the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White, and former Daily Show contributors-turned-comedy titans Ed Helms and Rob Riggle, The Lorax follows the adventures of a 12-year-old kid (Efron) who seeks to win the heart of his dream girl (Swift) with the unlikely help of the titular creature (DeVito), a grumpy spitfire with magnificent facial hair. Yeah, because this seems like a logical move.

Following the recent move off the project by actor Javier Bardem, Deadline reveals that Universal and Illumination Entertainment have found a replacement to fill the role of villain in their upcoming sequel Despicable Me 2 in the form of one Al Pacino.

The character had been rumored to be named ‘El Macho,’ but unless they decide to have a campy performance from Pacino, the role may be getting a retooling. That said, personally, I love this move for Pacino. [...]

A Princess of Mars, Edgar Rice Burroughs' timeless novel of intergalactic adventure and intrigue that introduced one of science fiction's most enduring and iconic heroes in Captain John Carter, has seen many fits and starts in its journey from page to screen that will end in less than two months when Andrew Stanton's live-action debut John Carter hits the big screen. Prior to Stanton's involvement the property passed through the hands of directors such as John McTiernan, Robert Rodriguez, Kerry Conran, and Jon Favreau over the years. [...]

Ever wondered what the newly revived MTV series Beavis and Butt-Head would look like in real life? Well...too bad, we're going to show you anyway!

Special effects and make-up whiz Kevin Kirkpatrick is the man responsible for bringing the underachieving animated duo to life. If you've not heard the name before, you've most definitely seen his work. He's done make-up work on the Friday the 13th, The Wolfman, and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes, as well as upcoming titles like The Avengers, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Steven Spielberg's Lincoln (ironic, eh?). With the live-action remake of the seminal 1988 Japanese animated futuristic action epic Akira that absolutely no one was asking for recently being shut down due to budgetary concerns (apparently Warner Bros. thinks a sprawling science-fiction adventure set in a dystopian future can be made for less than the cost of an Adam Sandler movie) there's no time like the present to begin your appreciation of the original manga-inspired film. Warner Brothers has been attempting to bring a live-action adaption of Akira to the big screen for a long while now, with many budgetary complications and cast and crew issues leading to delay after delay...much to the elation of fans who don't want to see it happen.

Lately, however, things appeared to be moving forward, and doing so at a quick pace. Beginning this past October, the movie was officially greenlighted after some budget problems were ironed out and a star was found in Tron: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund. There are few movies I love in the world more than John Carpenter's 1982 remake of The Thing. Actually there are two -- Evil Dead 2 and Blade Runner -- but that's not the point. I love The Thing more than the original Alien most days. It's just a perfect amalgam of vintage and modern horror-tinged sci-fi with an oppressively effective setting, terrific ensemble acting, innovative practical creature effects that remain horrifying to this day, and an infinitely more quotable script than Alien (Aliens, not so much) [...]

Christmas is upon us and we here at Geeks at Doom are celebrating the occasion as only we know how: by digging up holiday-themed oddities for your employment.

Today we have an extra special treat for you. Back in 1968 Terry Gilliam was working as an animator for the British children's series Do Not Adjust Your Set, which starred several of his fellow future members of Monty Python, when he produced this 3-minute-long ode to the classic imagery and rituals we commonly associate, and that some of us deep down really want to rip to shreds and defile the remains. Apparently you can’t do a film based in the universe of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs without a directing duo behind the camera.

Variety is reporting that the pair of Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn will be helming the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 for Sony Animation.

The first film was directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who themselves were relatively new to the animation game. Cameron and Pearn both worked on the first film as head of story and a story artist, respectively, so they definitely have a knowledge of the universe they want to build here. [...]

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the original (and still the best) of the Indiana Jones series. To celebrate the occasion animator Jeff Gurwood decided to pay homage to the movie that first brought together Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Harrison Ford with a stop-motion animated recreation of Raiders' famous opening sequence.
