As has become a habit, Guillermo del Toro is adding yet another project to his to-do list.

Del Toro is now set to produce Day of the Dead, a CGI-animated feature about a Romeo and Juliet-style love story set during the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday tracing back to the Aztecs that celebrates those who we’ve lost. It’s also said that music will play an important part in the movie, and that numerous international A-list recording artists will be brought in to perform both original songs and covers of iconic songs for the soundtrack. One of the most popular attractions at Disney World in Orlando, FL, is the Magic Kingdom’s world-famous Cinderella’s Castle. Since the beginning of February, the Castle has been the canvas for “The Magic, the Memories, and You” event, a 10-minute show featuring projections of hundreds of photographs of Disney World guests taken throughout the theme park each day by Disney PhotoPass photographers.

Universal Pictures premiered a new TV spot for their upcoming release Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, the latest beloved children’s book from the venerated author to get the CG-animated film treated, during last night’s Super Bowl.

Following the recent move off the project by actor Javier Bardem, Deadline reveals that Universal and Illumination Entertainment have found a replacement to fill the role of villain in their upcoming sequel Despicable Me 2 in the form of one Al Pacino.

The character had been rumored to be named ‘El Macho,’ but unless they decide to have a campy performance from Pacino, the role may be getting a retooling. That said, personally, I love this move for Pacino. [...]

Apparently you can’t do a film based in the universe of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs without a directing duo behind the camera.

Variety is reporting that the pair of Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn will be helming the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 for Sony Animation.

The first film was directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who themselves were relatively new to the animation game. Cameron and Pearn both worked on the first film as head of story and a story artist, respectively, so they definitely have a knowledge of the universe they want to build here. [...]

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the original (and still the best) of the Indiana Jones series. To celebrate the occasion animator Jeff Gurwood decided to pay homage to the movie that first brought together Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Harrison Ford with a stop-motion animated recreation of Raiders‘ famous opening sequence.

According to Twitch, Kristen Stewart, star of The Twilight Saga and the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, has been offered the female lead in Warner Brothers’ upcoming live-action remake of hit Japanese manga and animated feature, Akira.

Disney*Pixar has released a preview of the upcoming installment of Toy Story Toons, the series of shorts based in the Toy Story world.

The short is titled “Small Fry,” and sees Buzz Lightyear left behind at a fast food restaurant, where a therapy group for discarded toys is being held, and replaced by a miniature kids’ meal version of himself.

The new Toy Story short will run before The Muppets, which is set to be released on November 23. [...]
