Watch Now: ‘The Muppets’ Channels ‘The Hunger Games’ In This DVD Trailer

For the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray launch of The Muppets Disney has released a new promotional trailer that channels in more than a few ways another much-anticipated release, The Hunger Games.
You can check out the video here below.
I missed The Muppets in theaters last year so I’m anxious to catch the movie in the comfort of my own home. It’s good to hear that the big-screen comeback of Jim Henson‘s cherished creations did well enough at the box office for Disney to green-light a sequel, even though star/co-writer Jason Segel won’t be back next time due to a full dance card [...]

The ‘Indiana Jones’ Films Are Coming To Blu-ray This Fall

If adventure has a name it must be Indiana Jones. The legendary film franchise that made Harrison Ford a household name and solidified the reputations of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas as the kings of Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking has been one of the more notable absences from getting the Blu-ray treatment so far, but all that is about to change. The Complete Indiana Jones Blu-ray Collection is finally heading our way courtesy of Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Media Distribution.
You can watch a trailer for the release here below.
The Complete Indiana Jones Blu-ray Collection box set will include all four Indiana Jones movies (yes even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) remastered in high-definition and featuring a “best of” collection of documentaries, interviews, featurettes, and a few additional bonus features as yet unknown. Maybe they’ll finally include those fabled deleted scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Lord knows the Lucasfilm archives are teeming with great material for Blu-ray extras. Lucas didn’t hold out on us (much) when he released the Star Wars Blu-ray set last year [...]

It’s hard not to love Asian cinema. It delivers a style and an intensity not often in found in other films. Sometimes this can feel a little over the top, but, for the most part, the result is a lot of really great movies.
Sadly many people (myself included, for a time) don’t get to enjoy a whole lot of these movies because they’re not in plain sight. [...]

DVD Review: Belle De Jour [The Criterion Collection]
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | January 23rd, 2012 at 9:53 pm |

Belle De Jour
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Luis Bunuel
Starring Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Genevieve Page
The Criterion Collection
Release date: January 17, 2012
When digging through the history of film, very few filmmakers had quite the career of one Luis Bunuel. The surrealist icon first started in the short film medium (giving the world classics like Un Chien Andalou) only to get behind some of the most intriguing pictures of his generation, none of the cult auteur’s canon may be quite as beloved as his fantastical Belle De Jour.
Featuring Bunuel’s patented themes of human desire and pleasure, Belle feels like the physical manifestation of each and every single aspect of the surrealist belief structure, all in the guise of one of the most beautiful and complex pieces of narrative from one of film’s most interesting directors [...]

Watch Now: The Creation Of the Half-Corpse From ‘The Return of the Living Dead’

Much like the brain-craving zombies that rise from the grave to torment its main characters, The Return of the Living Dead will never die. The 1985 horror-comedy was spawned from nearly a decade of half-starts, costly lawsuits, and clashing personalities and went on to become one of the most genre films of all time.
For a forthcoming Blu-ray release of the movie in the United Kingdom, DVD distributor Severin Films, the U.S.-based company that has spread its own brand of digital Trioxin over long-buried cult classics such as the original Inglorious Bastards and Richard Stanley’s scorched earth sci-fi horror epic Hardware, has produced a trio of brand new retrospective featurettes looking back at the film’s tortured script development and the creation of its brilliant visual effects and headbanging punk rock soundtrack [...]

RELEASE DATE: December 13, 2011
By now we should all be familiar with the drill: whether we like it or hate it, Hollywood will and is remaking everything they can get their hands on, and that’s because people pay lots and lots of money to see them. So, knowing that, we might as well at least remain open to the possibility that every now and again a remake will be done properly (the Coen’s True Grit, for example) and in-turn, be worth our time and our money. RELEASE DATE: December 27, 2011
The last time we had a brush with death was in 2010′s The Final Destination. As it turned out, that installment in the horror movie franchise was by far the worst of them all with horrible acting, nonsensical situations, soap opera-level acting, and just an all-around unlikable final product. And that’s coming from someone who very much enjoyed the previous installments in the series for what they are: gruesomely fun guilty pleasures. [...]

‘”Manos”: The Hands Of Fate’ Being Restored For Blu-ray Release

There are far worse movies in the world than “Manos”: The Hands of Fate, the only film in the history of cinema made by an El Paso, TX fertilizer kingpin on a budget of $19,000 with a hand-cranked camera and a cast of hippie freaks and suicidal acid heads. But “Manos” remains the popular choice among fans of both Skid Row filmmaking and Mystery Science Theater 3000, the show that brought Hal Warren‘s obscure abortion of a horror flick back into the public eye. You can read my review of the recent DVD release of the MST3K version here [...]
