Geek Vintagevision: Watch This 1977 Interview With The Cast Of ‘Star Wars’

For today, which legions of Star Wars fans all across the globe celebrate the day, punnily coined as “May the 4th Be With You,” comes this nifty little clip from the old Mike Douglas Show in 1977 which originally aired July 20, 1977. On it is original Star Wars trilogy stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford, and it’s interesting to see them and the attitudes towards the first film right as it came out of the starting gate, before decades and decades have sort of crystallized it into becoming an iconic staple of Science-Fiction cinema, and a landmark empire of riches and success.
Watch the vintage video clip here below.
To put the time into perspective, there was certain a bold chance being taken by 20th Century Fox to put the project into fruition and eventually into the theaters. In early 1977, the Science-Fiction genre wasn’t what it became in the wake of Star Wars’ success, with the only films technically that even showed any bit of public light at a box office or a consciousness of the film community was John Carpenter’s 1974 Dark Star and 1976’s Logan’s Run, two films that were decidedly different, but dazzling good times, albeit arguably campy runs as cinematic productions. Star Wars of course changed the game with its phenomenal success and turned the genre on its ear as productions to this very day still sort of tip their hat to the schematic that Star Wars created for them [...]

May The Fourth Be With You – Happy Star Wars Day!
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | May 4th, 2013 at 11:01 am |

From the personal journal of Darth Vader:
I’m sitting here in Dexter’s Diner drinking some blue milk, though not very effectively as the straw doesn’t squeeze too well through the ventilator holes in my mask. It’s relatively quiet in here today. I don’t mean quiet as in nobody’s here; no they’re all just staring at me.
This happens frequently among the people on Coruscant when they haven’t seen a lightsaber used in some time. Or maybe it’s because they fear me so much that they have the poodoo scared out of them.
They’re all staring at me uncertainly. I’m absolutely sure this will get back to my master, The Emperor. He’s going to be angered at my conduct here today.
You think he’d thank me though. It’s not every day you get to behead Jar Jar Binks with a lightsaber.
Perhaps he might be more amused if I prepare something for him [...]

Celebrate This 4/20 In ‘High’ Style With Cheech and Chong!

In honor of 4/20, a day in which all things green and sticky make the rounds in a celebratory fashion, a day in which people across the nation turn on, tune in, and drop everything with a chill pill in the form of the mind-numbing and relaxing herb — that’s right, the hemp, sensemilla, rope, reefer, pot, and countless other synonyms for weed, but mainly known as marijuana. With today comes most appropriately a new animated cartoon by the comedy kings of the whole lifestyle, Cheech and Chong, entitled [what else?] Cheech and Chong’s Animated Movie.
Hilariously rendered and perpetually red-eyed, the cartoon looks to be a stoner-fest extraordinaire and shows the duo in their most well-known guises, those characterizations of the innocuous, yet dumbstruck and low key hilarious characters they parlayed to much success in the 1970s. Directed by Branden Chambers and Eric D. Chambers, the film is already playing in select cities and will have a full scale DVD and Blu-ray release come April 23rd, at all “dealers” (no pun intended and not just head shops mind you).
There’s a lot of interaction with the team planned for today on various social media sites, like Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, and more, beginning at 11am ET. Wake and bake with the team and ask them some of your favorite questions, hang out on Google with them, and even check out some clips at a Livestream Event, all happening during the day today. The full schedule is below [...]

King Tut Learns You Can’t Take It With You, Signs On For ‘Mummy’ Reboot

Looking to bring some authenticity to the planned reboot of The Mummy franchise, director Len Wiseman and Universal Pictures have snagged Tutankhamun, the 18th dynasty Egyptian pharaoh, to star in the new film.
Best known as King Tut, the once-popular pharaoh is reportedly hellbent on making a comeback, as interest in Tut and his many possessions have waned a lot since his tomb was discovered back in 1922. To help make his leap to the silver screen, Tutankhamun is being rep’d by Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, who hope their client’s involvement in the Universal Pictures sequel will promote tourism and raise Egyptology back from the dead [...]

Hard rock and heavy metal veterans KISS have announced that founding members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are leaving the band and going into retirement at the end of this year, while the band will go on as KISS II, a lineup featuring NO original members, beginning in 2014.

Therefore, the long-time musical partners have agreed to finally do the sequel to The Elder with Bob Ezrin, stating that the original 1981 album now has a cult following, and they are thinking “long-term” for the fans.
