2012's Year of the Dragon Chinese New Year begins today and runs for 15 days of celebrations in China and in Asian cultures around the world. Part of the celebration includes giving out red envelopes (or 'ang pow') filled with money to loved ones.

Today marks the beginning of Chinese New Year, the 15-day celebration in Asian cultures filled with gift-giving, family reunions, festivals, fireworks, and wishes of good luck and prosperity in the coming year.

In honor of 2012 being the Year Of The Dragon, author Neil Gaiman sent out a message to his Chinese friends with a drawing of what he says is a "wobbly dragon."

I just drew a wobbly dragon for my Chinese friends. He's based on a picture I saw of an ancient dragon who had three toes but was still Chinese...

Another year, another cool holiday greeting from Quirk Books, publisher of awesomeness like Night of the Living Trekkies, The Captain Jack Sparrow Handbook, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as well as their upcoming release, Jason Heller's Taft 2012.

This year's holiday greetings came in the form of a hand-signed and numbered original limited edition silk screened print by Tim Gough that urged everyone to "devour more books" - and I happened to think that that's a great suggestion!

One of my places to see the holiday sights is at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Not only are the decorations through the theme parks spectacular, but so are the displays through the entire Resort (meaning, the many hotels located on Disney propriety inside the "World").

Each resort really does it up nicely, and typically has a giant gingerbread and chocolate display. And if there's one way to get my attention, it's to create something cool out of gingerbread and/or chocolate.

For the holidays, we here at Geeks of Doom like to sponsor an animal in need, like Mr. Kitty the Bat for Halloween and Elizabeth the Turkey the Turkey for Thanksgiving.

This year for the Christmas season, in lieu of sponsoring one animal, we decided to make a general donation to the Best Friends Animal Society, which runs an animal-adoption shelter and also has a wonderful animal sanctuary for those animals who are not eligible for adoption. With so many homeless pets out there in need of loving families, we thought we'd help shine a light on some of the animals who can be adopted, like Buddy, who most likely used to be a big-time stuntman in Los Angeles, and Georgia, one of the pit bulls found living on the property of Michael Vick.
