Check Out Neil Gaiman’s Wobbly Dragon In Honor Of Chinese New Year

Today marks the beginning of Chinese New Year, the 15-day celebration in Asian cultures filled with gift-giving, family reunions, festivals, fireworks, and wishes of good luck and prosperity in the coming year.
In honor of 2012 being the Year Of The Dragon, author Neil Gaiman sent out a message to his Chinese friends with a drawing of what he says is a “wobbly dragon.”
I just drew a wobbly dragon for my Chinese friends. He’s based on a picture I saw of an ancient dragon who had three toes but was still Chinese…
I don’t know if anyone’s going to be able to see this photo posted here, in China. Last time I was there, this blog was cut off by the Great Firewall, but I post for it anyone who can: 恭喜发财
Check out here below a photo Gaiman posted on his blog of himself holding up the drawing [...]

Quirk’s Holiday Greetings Urge You To Devour More Books

Another year, another cool holiday greeting from Quirk Books, publisher of awesomeness like Night of the Living Trekkies, The Captain Jack Sparrow Handbook, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as well as their upcoming release, Jason Heller’s Taft 2012.
This year’s holiday greetings came in the form of a hand-signed and numbered original limited edition silk screened print by Tim Gough that urged everyone to “devour more books” – and I happened to think that that’s a great suggestion!
Check out a photo of my print, which was 117 of 500, here below [...]

Watch Now: A Special Christmas Greeting From Terry Gilliam

Christmas is upon us and we here at Geeks at Doom are celebrating the occasion as only we know how: by digging up holiday-themed oddities for your employment.
Today we have an extra special treat for you. Back in 1968 Terry Gilliam was working as an animator for the British children’s series Do Not Adjust Your Set, which starred several of his fellow future members of Monty Python, when he produced this 3-minute-long ode to the classic imagery and rituals we commonly associate, and that some of us deep down really want to rip to shreds and defile the remains. You can watch “Christmas Card” here below [...]

Video: The Walt Disney World Resort’s Gingerbread Holiday Displays

One of my places to see the holiday sights is at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Not only are the decorations through the theme parks spectacular, but so are the displays through the entire Resort (meaning, the many hotels located on Disney propriety inside the “World”).
Each resort really does it up nicely, and typically has a giant gingerbread and chocolate display. And if there’s one way to get my attention, it’s to create something cool out of gingerbread and/or chocolate.
JeffLangeDVD has posted a bunch of videos to YouTube of the edible holiday displays at the Disney World Resort, like the Gingerbread Carousel at Disney’s Beach Club that actually spins! [...]

May you find the droids you’re looking for…
Etsy shop LovesickRobotStudios created this holiday greeting card featuring Star Wars droid R2-D2. And while the sentiment is that you find the droids you’re looking for, I think we can all be thankful that the Empire didn’t find the droids they were looking for! [...]

Christmas 2011 Sponsorship: The Adoptable Animals At Best Friends Animal Society

For the holidays, we here at Geeks of Doom like to sponsor an animal in need, like Mr. Kitty the Bat for Halloween and Elizabeth the Turkey the Turkey for Thanksgiving.
This year for the Christmas season, in lieu of sponsoring one animal, we decided to make a general donation to the Best Friends Animal Society, which runs an animal-adoption shelter and also has a wonderful animal sanctuary for those animals who are not eligible for adoption. With so many homeless pets out there in need of loving families, we thought we’d help shine a light on some of the animals who can be adopted, like Buddy, who most likely used to be a big-time stuntman in Los Angeles, and Georgia, one of the pit bulls found living on the property of Michael Vick.
Watch the adorable video here below of some of the animals at BFAS dressed up in their holiday best [...]

The fine folks over atTeam Unicorn have put together this quaint little video entitled ‘A Very Zombie Holiday’. They packed it chock full of tender morsels concerning how to survive a holiday zombie attack, such as locking your doors and arming your children.
Funny, but foolish, you humans be.
You can watch the video here below, but let’s face it, deep down you all know there’s actually no real way to ‘survive’ against a zombie incursion [...]

Season’s Greetings everyone!
To get you further into the festive mood (one day to go!) have a listen to Black Label Society’s version of the traditional English Christmas carol, “The First Noel.”
It’s not the usual BLS heavy metal fare, it is a beautiful acoustic rendition from their covers album The Song Remains Not The Same. As usual Zakk Wylde’s guitar playing is excellent [...]

Celebrating A Metal Christmas With GWAR
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | December 24th, 2011 at 11:00 pm |

Last year for Christmas, metal demons GWAR decided to post a video that has since become one of my favorite videos of all time. It is fitting to post it up again this year, as sadly we lost guitarist Cory Smoot during 2011.
Cory Smoot aka Flattus Maximus was found dead in November this year. Smoot’s presence in the band was a significant shift forward for GWAR, with the new Flattus contributing his solid musical technique and thoughtful production values to the development of the band. He will be missed.
So, without further ado, here’s GWAR going caroling for Christmas – posted here both for the festive season, and in memory of Cory Smoot [...]
