It’s a Presidential election year here in the United States, so the campaigns are underway. But in the geek world, which characters would be running for election this year?

He’s done make-up work on the Friday the 13th, The Wolfman, and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes, as well as upcoming titles like The Avengers, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln (ironic, eh?). Funny or Die has created a trailer for a live-action adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon Rugrats that promises to be “the most disturbing movie ever made,” and the trailer certainly implies that it could be just that.

I’ve made it clear in the past that in recent months Community has become one of my absolute favorite television comedies of all time. You may not know the name Brad Hansen, but you should. Hansen is the creator of the Lion King/Dark Knight Rises mash-up trailer The Lion King Rises that premiered last week (watch it here). The video currently has over one million hits and rising every day.

Another day, another trailer mash-up. Today we have another remix of the recent trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, the concluding entry in Christopher Nolan’s cinematic reinvention of the classic DC Comics superhero Batman. This time around the creator of this video has synched the trailer’s audio to related images from Batman: The Animated Series.

2011 saw some incredible video games released (mostly in that small chunk of fall when bunches of them were raining down on us), but what can make a great video game even better? Why, an adult beverage concocted in the name of these very same games, of course. [...]

There are few movies I love in the world more than John Carpenter‘s 1982 remake of The Thing. Actually there are two — Evil Dead 2 and Blade Runner — but that’s not the point. I love The Thing more than the original Alien most days. It’s just a perfect amalgam of vintage and modern horror-tinged sci-fi with an oppressively effective setting, terrific ensemble acting, innovative practical creature effects that remain horrifying to this day, and an infinitely more quotable script than Alien (Aliens, not so much) [...]

Over the past few weeks three of the most anticipated films of 2012 saw their trailers premiere to mostly rapturous receptions. A few days ago someone was inspired to create a Alien/Prometheus mash-up trailer. The clip worked perfectly because those two movies are genetically linked at the story and visual levels. Before that the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was reedited into something infinitely superior to what the studio put out.

Thus it was only a matter of time before the well-received second trailer for The Dark Knight Rises got its own fan edit. Some genius decided to take the soundtrack from the trailer and mate it with clips from Disney’s 1994 animated blockbuster The Lion King. You can watch the final product here below [...]

There’s something wholly amusing about taking something popular and re-editing it to look like it belongs in a completely different genre than it does. It’s been done plenty of times before, and it’s been done again here with the hit sitcom Modern Family.

Mr. Plinkett, the sardonic, slow-speaking (dude sounds creepily like Buffalo Bill) video reviewer for Red Letter Media, has returned with another of his cuttingly funny and methodical dissections of another blockbuster from recent years.

Last year for Christmas, metal demons GWAR decided to post a video that has since become one of my favorite videos of all time. It is fitting to post it up again this year, as sadly we lost guitarist Cory Smoot during 2011.

Cory Smoot aka Flattus Maximus was found dead in November this year. Smoot’s presence in the band was a significant shift forward for GWAR, with the new Flattus contributing his solid musical technique and thoughtful production values to the development of the band. He will be missed.

So, without further ado, here’s GWAR going caroling for Christmas – posted here both for the festive season, and in memory of Cory Smoot [...]
