Terra Mors Secunda Album banner

Terra is a three-piece, atmospheric, black metal band hailing from Cambridge, England. Their sound, while unique in its own right, is also reminiscent of bands like Wolves In The Throne Room, Ash Borer, and Alter of Plagues. Their 2015 self-titled debut album was met by widespread critical praise, landing them on many critics’ year end “best of” lists.

Now Terra is set to release its highly anticipated follow-up and, let me tell you, I’ve heard it and there is definitely no sophomore slump here! The record is titled Mors Secunda and it hits the streets next Friday December 9, 2016.

Black Metal Friday: Metallica’s “ManUnKind” Gives First Look At Mayhem Film ‘Lords Of Chaos’
Ides Bergen   |  @   |

Metallica ManUNkind preview Lord Of Chaos Mayhem movie

Why on Earth is GoD featuring aMetallica video for Black Metal Friday, you ask? Well, just two days ago, the trash metal legends released videos for all 13 tracks from their highly anticipated tenth studio album Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, which is available worldwide today, November 18, 2016, via the band’s own Blackened Recordings label.

One of those clips was for the song “ManUNkind” and featured a group of actors performing onstage in corpse paint and bearing a striking resemblance to the notorious Norwegian band Mayhem. I had commented in my review of Hardwired… To Self-Destruct yesterday that I thought it was just Metallica’s way of trolling the metal trolls. Well, it turns out that it is actually our first look at Lords Of Chaos, the upcoming feature film following the almost surreal saga of Mayhem.

Ides Bergen   |  @   |

Venom Early Band Photo

November 1, 2016 marked the 34th anniversary of one of the most important records in the history of extreme music. Way back in 1982, a band from Newcastle, England unleashed their second album on an unsuspecting public and things would never be the same for heavy metal. The band was Venom and the album was called Black Metal.

It was a landmark release in many respects in that it would serve as the aesthetic blueprint for a variety of extreme genres such as thrash, death metal, and, of course, black metal. From a musical standpoint the record has more in common with thrash than modern black metal. Regardless, many people believe it to be the seed from which all that would follow across the spectrum of extreme metal was germinated.

Norwegian extreme metal band Tsjuder has had a rocky history. Their numerous line-up changes, break-ups, and other assorted misfortunes have resulted in the band only releasing five full-length albums in its tumultuous 23-year career.

But, when they’re active they are super influential, as evidenced in today’s Black Metal Friday selection. Tsjuder’s 2006 live DVD Norwegian Apocalypse shows the band in all of its live glory.

Mist of Misery Band Photo 2016

Swedish band Mist of Misery has just released its second full-length album via Black Lion Records. It is titled Absence and it is a tour de force of symphonic black metal. The record marks a notable upgrade in songwriting and production quality from the already impressive trio.
