In Penny Dreadful: The Awakening #5, it’s Hell on Earth, quite literally. In this brand new story arc, we watch as our dutiful protectors are vanquished, forcing them to retreat and formulate new plans to defeat the evil that has taken root in the body of one of humanity’s strongest defenders. I am a latecomer to this franchise, but I have quickly learned that it is a gloriously built world with a rich and inviting concept.

Long Beach Comic Con 2017 Roundup

Long Beach Comic Con 2017

The Long Beach Comic Con (LBCC), held this year on September 2-3, recently wrapped up, and it was another solid show, and in its ninth year seemed to be the biggest one yet.

The LBCC is one of a growing list of smaller- to mid-size conventions that offers a more comics-based focus as opposed to the big boys like the San Diego and NY Comic-Cons, where movie and TV programming and exhibitors almost overwhelm all else. Here, a variety of big names and new voices mingled in the sizable Artist’s Alley, and indie publishers were in abundance. Comic creators were well represented with names such as Howard Chaykin, Pia Guerra, Dave Gibbons, and Gene Ha, among many others. In terms of celebrity guests, this year’s LBCC managed to book both William Shatner and Sherilyn Fenn, along with a number of fan-favorite animation voice actors.

A Column of Fire (Kingsbridge #3) by Ken Follett

A Column of Fire
Kingsbridge #3
Hardcover | Kindle | Audiobook
By Ken Follett
Publisher: Viking Books
Release date: September 12, 2017

Sometimes authors will surprise you. I speak, in this case, of Ken Follett and his upcoming novel, A Column Of Fire. As a voracious reader, it is seldom that I am without reading material, but I have recently stagnated with new books and writers. I’ve tried a plethora of unknown authors and their works, but none have sated my current needs, my hunger to read. Therefore, it was almost stunning when I was offered the chance to shine a spotlight on this book, one that I have not, as of yet, read. But there is more to the Kingsbridge series and its creator than one might think. I hold a special place in my heart for Follett that I will try to put into words.

Top 10 Movies Of 2017 … So Far – Seandps’s Picks
Seandps   |

Movies of 2017 Logan Wolverine movie

As the Summer movie season comes to a close, it’s time to set aside our popcorn movies and head into the Oscar and horror seasons. It’s a good time to take a look at what the best Movies of 2017 so far are, and wonder what will still be on that list by the end of the year.

As of now, I have seen 57 new films this year, and am on pace for a record number of movies. I’m not exactly sure what my record is, but I think the mid 70s is a good guess. As always, that includes any movie I see for the first time, so the easiest first cut, is all of the older movies I see for the first time. And the process continues until I get only ten movies, and this year, I pretty much knew what the top movies were going to be. It was the end of the list that was the real issue.

So, here’s a look at my Top 10 Movies of 2017… so far.

Kickstarter Spotlight: ‘Drawing Blood’ By Kevin Eastman, David Avallone, and Ben Bishop
Maximus Prime   |

Drawing Blood Kickstarter Kevin Eastman

If any of you are like me, you grew up watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, playing with the brand’s action figures, and reading the comics. But have you ever wondered what it was like for the creators of TMNT — or any other popular franchise for that matter — to hit it big in the comic book industry? What kind of stories do these guys have to tell from behind the scenes?

In Drawing Blood — a graphic novel written by one of TMNT‘s co-creators, Kevin Eastman, and that is currently running on Kickstarter — you’ll get to learn about some of these true stories, only set in a fictionalized world. Joined by comic creators David Avallone and Ben Bishop, Eastman’s Kickstarter for Drawing Blood has passed its goal of $75,000, and with only has a few days left, is now reach for some awesome stretch goals!

I was able to chat with both Avallone and Bishop about the project, and am excited to share their experiences with all of you! Check out the interview here below, along with their video for Drawing Blood!

Interview With Ray Santiago: Pablo From ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’
Dr. Zaius   |  @   |

Ray Santiago as Pablo ash vs evil dead

It’s Ash vs Evil Dead week for me over at Geeks of Doom. I got a chance to interview the three lead cast members, reviewed the upcoming Blu-Ray release, and met Bruce Campbell at a book signing in New Jersey. One of the highlights was getting to speak to Ray Santiago, aka Ash’s trusted sidekick Pablo Simon Bolivar. The Bronx born actor has been a pivotal part of the Starz series since its premiere in 2015, supporting his “jefe” through plenty of deadite-fueled adventures. Last season on Ash vs Evil Dead, Pablo faced several challenges from his body being possessed by the Book of the Dead, to terrifying visions, and oh yeah, there was the bit about him dying. With Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 already completed and awaiting a release date from Starz, I spoke with Pablo himself about his experiences during season 2 and what to look forward to on the upcoming season.

It has been a pleasure to watch Locke & Key blossom over the years. Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez have consistently astounded me and not once managed to disappoint me with this series.
