‘The Hee Haw Collection’ 3-DVD Set
Stoogeypedia   |

The Hee Haw Collection

Hee Haw, the stalwart 1970s rural comedy/variety program which struck a chord with Middle America and became a staple of television during that era, first on network and then in syndication, has now been archived as part of a 3-DVD set by Time Life titled The Hee Haw Collection.

Debuting in the late 1960s, Hee Haw was in essence a countrified version of the comedy smash hit Laugh-In, in which rapid fire one liners, catchphrases, blackouts, and fast-paced sketches were the order of the day. Taking the same basic core elements but adding a kind of “southern” feel to the proceedings, replete with famous country luminaries such as Roy Clark, Minnie Pearl, and Buck Owens, pretty cowgirls, and hayseed-themed comedy and characters, Hee Haw debuted on CBS in 1969. The show lasted for two years and then became one of the longest running shows in syndication history, a success story on par with other shows of the era, such as The Lawrence Welk Show and Soul Train.

‘Mr. Warmth! The Ultimate Don Rickles TV Collection’ 8-DVD Set
Stoogeypedia   |

Mr. Warmth! Don Rickles Ultimate TV Collection

Legendary funnyman Don Rickles, who almost singlehandedly made the put down into an art form with his unique brand of acerbic, caustic, and yet somehow irresistibly charming wit, is captured in all his hilarious glory in various projects in the Time Life release Mr. Warmth! Don Rickles The Ultimate TV Collection.

Enjoying a career that spans almost 60 years, Don Rickles remains one of the last vestiges of an old school Hollywood, in which even though Rickles was the court jester, still somehow lorded over the universe as a monarch. No one was spared his playful yet acidic verbal wrath; entire rooms filled with Tinseltown’s A-list would be mowed down one by one like a domino effect when Rickles started cooking. And there was hardly a moment where he would be anything but razor-sharp no matter what he did, be it on stage commanding the proceedings, film, in which he mainly made small appearances but always with the touch of comic relief, and television, where he also tackled pretty much every genre the medium had to offer to varying degrees of success while always remaining true to the Rickles legend.

‘The Midnight Special’ 11-DVD Deluxe Set
Stoogeypedia   |

The Midnight Special

The Midnight Special, the quintessential 1970s musical variety program that showcased live performances by current and classic acts each week on NBC, has been packaged by Time-Life into a deluxe 11-DVD set filled with the greatest highlights of the program and chocked with hours of bonus material. The set is now available and is a perfect item for the music lover in your family.

Not even Saturday Night Live had been showcasing the kind of sonically rousing cornucopia of bands, sounds, and genres like The Midnight Special was doing. Rock, Funk, Pop, Soul, R&B, even traces of hard rock/metal were common fare on the program. The program always had the vibe (as most of the 1970s did) as one big idyllic, relaxed laid back party, replete with audience members allowed to get loose and whoop it up and stomp their feet, as the band played live their latest hit or well-known album cut.

Holiday Music Gift Guide 2015

The holidays have dawned upon us again and it seems as if the unveiling of them gets sooner and sooner each year. In a world that has seen one of its toughest and tragic years in 2015, the beauty of the holidays is more than a traditional, religious bent, but more about the communion of people and the act of humanity that seems to crawl from the cobwebs only during this time for some people. Regardless of the volume rate, whenever something can collectively bond people together with a sense of energy that runs placid and empathetic, there’s something to be said about the perennial emotion that gets reserved for this time of year. And of course with this year, comes the giving and receiving of gifts and good cheer. And as is my wont for the past few years now, I too have been rather perennial in my choices for key music items to bestow upon good friends and loved ones this time of year. So here’s some picks for this some of this years A-list offerings in music. As usual, this list goes to eleven.

Here’s the Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2015 for Music
