Constantly in danger, she aligns herself with and against supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves, all the while seeking to find her place in the world. The past 3 nights, A&E, The History Channel, and Lifetime have simultaneously aired the first 3 parts of the “Groundbreaking Series Reimagined” – Roots, based on Alex Haley’s 1976 novel. The original 1977 series starring Levar Burton and John Amos as warrior turned slave (but a warrior forever in his heart), Kunta Kinte, followed him and his generations of family through the brutal history of America. This week we cried and cringed and laughed and raged with these strong characters and brilliant actors. On Night 1, we met Kunta Kinte (Malachi Kirby) ripped away from his happy life in Africa, to be whipped and chained as a slave in America, always trying to escape. On Night 2, Kunta loses half a foot for running, and settles down with his wife Belle (Emayatzy Corinealdi) and his daughter Kizzy (E’myri Lee Crutchfield), teaching her the ways of a warrior. Kizzy is sold to another, ripped from her parents loving arms. Night 3 was the story of Kizzy (Anika Noni Rose) and her son George (Regé-Jean Page), product from a rape by her new owner, Tom Lea (Jonathan Rhys Myers). As much as George tried to gain Tom’s approval and love, in the end Tom sold him for a debt, and George was ripped away from his wife, babies, and mother.

The story of a boy and his dog gets a new prehistoric spin in Disney and Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur. The story asks the age-old question, what would have happened if the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs had missed? Well, in the film, we learn that the dinosaurs become productive members of society that adapted to their natural surroundings. There lies one of the things that makes this film so beautiful. Even with its storied production problems the film has gone through, the studio has managed to rise above it all and give out something that is not only beautiful aesthetically, but emotionally as well.

Arlo, a skittish Apatosaurus with a big heart, is separated from his family. Scared and alone, our hero must find his way home before the cold winter comes. On his journey he comes across sights he has never seen before, and meets an unlikely companion who joins him on his course home – a human boy, whom he names Spot. Together, they learn that they have more in common with each other than they originally thought despite their difference in species, and together they find that they can have the courage to overcome any fear they will encounter on their journey home.

Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Interview: Stars Anna Paquin, Sam Elliot, AJ Buckley
eelyajekiM   |

The Good Dinosaur

Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur may not look like it at first, but it does have some aspects of a Western that you would see in the rarely seen genre. In the upcoming animated film, Sam Elliot (Tombstone, Justified), Anna Paquin (True Blood, X-Men: Days of Future Past), and AJ Buckley (Justified, Narcos) provide the voices for Butch, Ramsey, and Nash, respectively, a family of T-Rexes who also happen to be cattle ranchers. They are just like any family in a western film, they have a very deep bond with each other, and are fascinated by the incredible stories their father tells. Together, they help Arlo get home, as long as the skittish apatosaurus is able to help them draw out some nasty rustlers who are stealing their cattle.

Geeks Of Doom was invited to sit down with the three film stars along with a group of our fellow journalists during the press day for The Good Dinosaur. During that time, the three actors talked about how weird Pop Vinyls look, finding the voice and the roars to their characters, being a part of the Pixar legacy, and much more. Check out our interview with the three actors here below.

‘The Good Dinosaur’ International TV Spot Gives Pixar’s Dinos Some Voices
eelyajekiM   |

The Good Dinosaur

Of all the The Good Dinosaur trailers that we have seen so far, none of them had any dialogue. While the film touts an eclectic cast, some began to wonder if Pixar’s upcoming feature would be like Wall-E. During their panel at D23 Expo, we finally got to hear some of the film’s voicework through a series of clips, and hear what Sam Elliot, Anna Paquin, and AJ Buckley sounded like as Pixarized T-Rexes. However, if you didn’t get a chance to see the footage a month ago, a newly released international TV spot offers you the chance to hear some of the talent at work, and provides some context as to how Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) gets separated from his pack.

Check out the latest TV spot for The Good Dinosaur here below.

D23 Expo 2015: ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Brings Prehistoric Tears
eelyajekiM   |

The Good Dinosaur

The first Pixar film to be presented at Disney’s D23 Expo on Friday during the studio’s portion of the animation panel was The Good Dinosaur. Peter Sohn (Partly Cloudy) makes his feature directing debut on Pixar’s first prehistoric film about Arlo, an apatosaurus who becomes separated from his family, and sets off on a journey that will make him grow stronger physically and as a dinosaur.

In The Good Dinosaur, our lead character Arlo is not as strong as his dinosaur siblings, drawing his strength from his father. Unfortunately, his father passes on, and we learn that Arlo eventually becomes separated from his family. The clip that was shown reveals the treacherous waters that nearly drown him. Luckily, he is able to be washed ashore, where he eventually comes across a human named Spot.
