Annabelle: Creation

Annabelle Creation
Director: David F. Sandberg
Screenwriter: Gary Dauberman
Cast: Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto, Samara Lee
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Rated R | 109 Minutes
Release Date: August 11, 2017

All the possessed portraits, toys, and haunted spirits we’ve seen in James Wan‘s Conjuring films leaves plenty of room for world building. As such spinoffs are released to expand upon that world, though it has been met with mixed results. For one thing, Annabelle: while a commercial success, the spinoff was a critical disappointment. But studios are more concerned with the former, so of course, we’re going to get a continuation of that poorly received spinoff.

But here is the surprising thing about Annabelle: Creation, it’s actually pretty good. Lights Out director David F. Sandberg‘s latest effort uses all the traditional horror tropes that deliver plenty of chills and thrills. But because it uses all those familiar elements, it all suffers from the same pitfalls. Still, it is a prequel spinoff that gets the job done, and really, that’s all you could ask for. Check out my full review below.

Annabelle 2

James Wan‘s The Conjuring expanded its story with its first spinoff Annabelle. The film did not redefine the horror genre the same way that The Conjuring did, but it was still enough of a success to warrant a sequel. Now, Warner Bros. is giving us a first look at Annabelle 2 from director David F. Sandberg. That name may sound familiar to you if you recently watched Lights Out, which was also produced by Wan. That film, though relatively small, got some high praise for being a frightful experience.

Check out the teaser trailer here below for Annabelle 2.

Perhaps the most beloved Superman story of all time, Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely‘s All-Star Superman amazed fans as it hit comic racks from 2005 to 2008. Many readers who never considered themselves fans of the character agree that Morrison’s tale of the most powerful hero who ever lived completely changed their view of the Man of Steel. So when it was announced that this instant classic would be the basis for the tenth entry in Warner Premiere and DC Comics’ collection of animated films, many were understandably nervous. The result, however, was something pretty amazing.

The screenplay written by the legendary Dwayne McDuffie stays quite faithful to Morrison’s original story. After a series of events set into motion by Lex Luthor, Superman finds himself more powerful than ever — but there’s a catch. His body is slowly breaking down and his death is imminent. With this in mind, he wastes no time making his remaining time on Earth count for something. His adventures include a romantic birthday celebration for Lois Lane, a special visit to his hometown of Smallville, and run-ins with classic and original villains both on Earth and in space.
