Firefly -- Captain Mal's Gun

The DIY Prop Shop is back with a new video that fans of Joss Whedon‘s still inexplicably dead space western Firefly will be interested in seeing.

The YouTube series’ latest video will show you how to make your very own prop replica of the recognizable handgun that Captain Malcolm Reynolds (played by Nathan Fillion) wields on the show. It will take a bit of work if you want to pull it off, but it’s a good option if you don’t have the money purchase an actual replica.

You can check out the video below.

Firefly Captain Malcolm Reynolds

A University of Wisconsin–Stout theater professor, James Miller, has come under fire after putting up a poster for the Joss Whedon sci–fi western cult classic, Firefly, on his office door.

The poster (seen here) included one of Captain Malcolm Reynolds’ (Nathan Fillion) many classic quotes: “You don’t know me, son, so let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you’ll be awake. You’ll be facing me. And you’ll be armed.” But apparently there’s a lot of very stupid people involved with monitoring the happenings of The University of Wisconsin–Stout, because campus police saw the poster, blindly only saw the words “kill you,” and removed it because clearly some kid was going to wander by, see it, and kill someone.

The Decade List: The 59 Best Films Of The Past Ten Years – Chapter ILet’s just get it out of the way right off the ol’ bat: Yes, we know it’s been a few months since we left the decade. Most folks undertook this heavy task pre-2010, but we decided that it would be a little bit better to let the new year settle in a bit before hitting you with something of this magnitude.

So here we are, geeks; we’ve officially arrived in FUTURE *cue retro ’50s sci-fi music* and still we have no freakin’ flying cars yet. What’s the deal with that? While it is pretty exciting to be a month or so into the year 2010 — a year that always seemed unreachable to us mere mortals — we are also exiting another entire decade that leaves us staring at one majorly epic task. That task? To search, dig, locate, retrieve, organize, polish, and present the very best films of the past ten years!

We must once again declare that this list is also simply opinion. You are are without doubt going to find movies here that you hate and do not think deserve to be included. You will surely think of movies that you think should not only be on here, but that should be at the very top of the list. There will even be some that I have not seen and thus, can not add. Even at this very moment, I sit, worrying and wondering if I’ve forgotten any that I would include; that’s just the way things fly when compiling something this massive.

With all of that said, we invite you in to relax and check out Chapter I of our list, The Decade List: The 59 Best Films of the Past Ten Years!

Serenity -- The Big Damn Replica #1

Sideshow Collectibles is renowned for their ability to make scale model replicas of popular entertainment creations and characters. These collectibles are of the highest of quality and make any collection induce jealousy in those who gaze upon it.

Their newest creation is no different; in fact, it’s one of their most impressive pieces to date. The company has created a 23 1/2″ high, 12″ wide 1:180 scale model of the title character of Joss Whedon‘s beloved sci-fi western show, Firefly: the ship itself, Serenity.

It’s nearly impossible to sum up the amount of detail and work that was put into this item, which is perfectly called Serenity — The Big Damn Replica, so you’ll have to refer to the list below for full details. The team that worked on it put in three whole years doing research and taking every possible measure and precaution to ensure its utmost flawlessness. The unfortunate aspect to this pile of awesome, is that most of us will never ever own one. You see, there will only be one thousand of them ever produced, and each one will cost you $2,699.99 with a $540 deposit required — OR, if you desperately need one, you can drop only $431 a month using their payment program.

Head over to the other side to read all of the insane details that are included in this replica AND to see many more cool images of it.

Must Watch: The Return Of ‘Firefly’ Captain Malcolm Reynolds…Sorta

Mal

Depressing as it may be, Fox and whoever else that has had the opportunity have still not realized the must-happen decision that needs to be made to bring Firefly back from the dead. Proving that even the actors involved in the show are just as faithful to that “you can’t take the sky from me” mentality as us crazy Browncoat fans, Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) himself has been bringing plenty of Serenity flare to his current gig, Castle. It began with random and subtle references to Firefly as well as other Joss Whedon work like Buffy, but in the latest episode of Castle, Fillion took to a whole new level.

You see, this week’s episode was the Halloween episode, and what better costume for Richard Castle — the mystery novelist-turned NYPD aide — than Captain Mal? The episode is hilarious right off the bat with Fillion getting his costume on and jumping into a room like a superhero where a girl who I assume is his daughter says “Didn’t you wear that like five years ago? Don’t you think you should move on?”, to which he replies “I like it.”

You can click on over to the other side right now to watch the episode of Castle entitled “Vampire Weekend” in its entirety.
