‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs’ Machine Prints Edible Pizza (Video)
The Movie God   |

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Image

Back in May of last year we dove into the ever-booming world of 3D printing when it was revealed that NASA had given $125,000 to engineer Anjan Contractor to develop a machine that could actually print edible food items for astronauts to eat in space. It sounded right out of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or Star Trek.

The first goal was a favorite of most people: a simple pizza. The machine would print a layer of dough that cooks as the process moves along, then mix a tomato powder with water and oil to create the sauce layer before the final layer of cheese and any protein that might be used is added.

Contractor has made some good progress since then, and a video of the food printing machine in action has been released. You can watch the video of a pizza being printed and see an image of the final product below!

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Header Image

A pair of posters for highly anticipated upcoming animated movies have found their way to the ‘net.

The first is for Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. prequel, titled Monsters University. The movie tells the story of when James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (John Goodman) and Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) first met way back in college and hated each other, and how they eventually came to be best friends. It hits theaters on June 21, 2013.

The second movie is Sony’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, the sequel to every food lover’s best dream (and worst nightmare) movie. In it, Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and others are forced to return to the town of Swallow Falls to deal with the many “sentient food beasts” that have overrun it. The sequel will be released on September 27th.

‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs’ Directors To Deliver LEGO Movie
The Movie God   |

Warner Brothers has chosen a duo to write and direct a new feature-length movie set around the universally popular building block toys, LEGO.

The studio has set Phil Lord and Chris Miller to handle the duties after they impressed both WB and LEGO — who has to approve all decisions to ensure that they’re name remains untarnished — with their pitch for the movie. One of the concerns was whether to make the movie an animated one or to go live-action with it. Considering how often it is done these days with current CGI and motion capture technologies, it would seem that the best bet would be to mix animations and live-action, and that’s exactly the pitch that was made by Lord and Miller.

The 3D Epidemic: When Does The Novelty Become The Standard & Is This What We Want?
The Movie God   |

Robin HoodRecently, The Wrap did a story on the new 3D technology and the vice-grip hold it has on the world of Hollywood. As we are all very much aware, it feels like every single movie that’s made these days is released in 3D, and in a lot of cases, we find ourselves asking the question “Why?” over and over again. In this new article, it is revealed that apparently Ridley Scott himself is “breathing down the necks” of executives at Universal to spend an extra $7-8 Million to make a 3D version of his upcoming period action/drama, Robin Hood. This is obviously one of the more confusing titles that we’ve heard associated with the 3D phenomena, and it lead us to begin wondering when this whole technology has just gone too far?

Many big names in the business have laid solid claim to 3D being the future of cinema, but judging by the collective feelings of movie fans, it is unclear whether this is what people want. There’s no doubt at all that when it comes to films like Avatar, which is built specifically for that technology, and fun movies like Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, 3D can be a really great time. But when this is happening so often that a movie like Robin Hood is even joining the party, you can’t help but think it’s only a matter of time before we see movies like Steven Spielberg‘s Abraham Lincoln biopic Lincoln getting in line for some 3D action. That’s just too much.

Geek Peek: First Look At Upcoming Animated 3-D Movies
The Movie God   |

Toy Story

Entertainment Weekly has released nine new images of movies on their way in exploding 3-D style. These will only really be amusing to you if you have a pair of 3-D glasses you can throw on to check them out, otherwise you may obtain a small headache. Old school glasses don’t seem to work, either… I tried that.

Movies included in the set are: a couple from Monsters vs. Aliens (March 27), Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (July 1), and Up (May 29) as well as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (September 18), Alpha and Omega (2010), and even a look at the 3-D re-release of 1995’s Toy Story, set for another run October 2.

We recently covered a Time story on 3-D movies as the future of films (Read: James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ To Rock A $300 Million Budget; The Future Of Movies Is At Our Doors). While the perfection of live-action 3-D movies is still being worked out, as you can see, animated 3-D movies are coming in droves.

Be sure to click over and check out the images.
