The Losers, based on a DC comic, isn’t merely hell-bent on expressing violence like recent comic book adaptations (Jonah Hex). There is a method behind its outrageous madness. Externally The Losers and violence are mutually inseparable, finding pleasure in things that go BOOM, but internally is where it separates itself from the Jonah Hexes out there and undergoes an operation that is primarily inspired by one emotion: revenge. This intense sense of emotion is precisely what the picture needs because it has an actor in Jeffrey Dean Morgan who can construct a character who is riddled with guilt to perfection. We have seen him do it before in Watchmen, a film in some instances The Losers represents.

The similarities that can be found in both films have to do with the idea of abandonment and betrayal. Extending beyond violence, director Sylvain White finds a potent force that can withstand the over excessive amount of violence the picture contains. That force deals with humane elements. In Watchmen the heroes are depressed due to authorities and citizens questioning their true colors. The heroes are then wounded by the abandonment of such people. In The Losers a group of five highly trained Special Ops workmen led by Clay (Morgan) are stained with the same kind of abandonment.

Spoiler Talk: The Losers

The LosersThe Losers is one of my favorite comics that showed me that not all comics have to be complicated and bogged down by continuity and details. Sometimes comics can be just an enjoyable, action-packed thrill ride. So, needless to say, I was extremely excited when I saw that this was coming to the big screen — I was overjoyed! I still strongly believe that this movie could have been marketed so much better and made so much more money, but that is a different story all together.

I definitely enjoyed this movie more than any other movie I have watched this entire year. I’ve already watched it twice and will probably see it again. It had that great popcorn action flick feel just like the comic did. It was a fun action movie that just kept on going all the way through the end and didn’t drag even for a second.

Unlike Kick-Ass, The Losers is a very close adaptation of the first volume of the comic and can people will easily see where the story is coming from. In fact, the casting in this movie was near perfect and Cougar, who is my favorite in the comic, is also my favorite in the movie. I really hope this movie does well because I would love to see the sequel be made because of its success. Anyways, enough of the small talk let’s get to the SPOILER TALK!

Below are my spoilerific thoughts on the movie The Losers. Don’t forget to add your spoiler-laden musings at the end in the comments section.

Geek Peek: First Official Synopsis & Images From ‘The Losers’

The Losers #1

Another comic book being adapted into a movie that is showing off some of its brand new images is The Losers. The movie is based on the Vertigo comic of the same name that is created and written by Andy Diggler, with artwork done by Jock. These two new images from the movie are not the most exciting images you’ll ever see — you will not get goosebumps — but for you hardcore fans of the comic or some of the stars, this is your first chance to get a look at them dressed up (or down) in full character.

The Losers is directed by Sylvain White, who has previously directed I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, and Stomp the Yard. It stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Grey’s Anatomy) as Clay, Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Sunshine) as Jensen, Zoë Saldana (Star Trek, Avatar) as Aisha, Jason Patric (The Lost Boys, Narc) as Max, Óscar Jaenada (Che: Part Two) as Cougar, Idris Elba (The Wire, American Gangster) as Rogue, and Columbus Short (Quarantine, Whiteout) as Pooch.

‘Lethal Weapon 5’ Waiting On Mel Gibson; May Be On Fast Track

The Movie God   |  @   |

Lethal WeaponIt looks like the only one thing keeping Lethal Weapon 5 from moving forward at the moment is Mel Gibson and his seemingly hard-to-obtain blessing.

Shane Black — who wrote all previous Weapon films (and The Monster Squad!) — has written the 5th movie’s script and is hoping to direct after successfully writing and directing the extremely entertaining Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

All things now rest in the hands of Gibson himself and whether he wants to step back into those shoes again. My presumption is that it won’t be too long before he gives the treatment a run through and decides, but you never know.
