Inoperable
DVD | Digital
Written by Christopher Lawrence Chapman and Jeff Miller
Directed by Christopher Lawrence Chapman
Starring Danielle Harris, Jeff Denton, Katie Keene, Chris Hahn
Studio: Cinedigm
Release Date: February 6, 2018

Inoperable doesn’t cover much in the way of new territory for horror fans, but does add some intriguing twists in a somewhat familiar puzzle. There’s a deadly all-time hurricane about to hit and Amy Barrett (Danielle Harris) is stuck in bumper to bumper traffic”¦ until she’s in the hospital”¦ until she’s back in traffic”¦ You get it. The hospital is filled with strange characters, none of them who seem to have gotten the memo about the hippocratic oath. There’s a rambling priest, doctors and nurses who seem possessed to perform horrific surgeries, and a shadowy ghostly girl who keeps appearing and reappearing throughout the various corridors of the hospital.

Hatchet IIIHatchet III
Unrated Director’s Cut
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by BJ McDonnell
Starring Danielle Harris, Zach Galligan, Caroline Williams
Dark Sky Films
Release Date: August 13, 2013

The latest installment of Adam Green‘s extra-bloody slasher movie saga Hatchet III has arrived in full force on Blu-ray, but unlike the first two movies, Green did not direct this one. He both wrote and produced the new movie, but decided prior to filming to hand directing duties off to newcomer BJ McDonnell – Green’s cinematographer on the first two Hatchet movies. When the original premiered on the film festival circuit in late 2006 and arrived briefly in theaters and on home video a year later, horror fans who had long been swamped by turgid remakes and watered-down PG-13 studio offerings lapped up every drop of crimson grue dripping from its celluloid frames. Though far, far from being a box office success, Hatchet‘s explosive popularity with fans warranted the requisite sequel.

Arriving almost five years later and with little of the fanfare that greeted the original when it debuted, Hatchet II briefly wormed its way into the national mindset once the news broke that it had been pulled from most theater chains due its being released without an MPAA rating. The seemingly manufactured controversy (which reminded me of the mild uproar over homophobic slurs used in Eli Roth’s first Hostel movie that was kept alive on the letters page of Fangoria for a brief period in 2006 mostly through the efforts of the director himself) couldn’t help Hatchet II build a fraction of the cult following earned by its predecessor and overall audience reaction was unimpressive. However, it did well enough for a prospective third movie to get the green light, which brings us to the present day and Hatchet III.

Hatchet III

Directed by BJ McDonnell, Hatchet III reunites Danielle Harris (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers) and Kane Hodder (Jason Goes to Hell).

Written, executive produced, and “presented by” Adam Green (who directed the first two Hatchet films), Hatchet III is helmed by McDonnell, who served as Green’s camera operator on the first two Hatchet flicks as well as Green’s Spiral.

Check out the new unrated trailer for Hatchet III here below.

This third installment in the new-age slasher series continues the legacy of Victor Crowley, played by Hodder, who’s best known as portraying Jason Voorhees in numerous Friday the 13th movies. As a search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and carnage left behind from the first two films, Marybeth (Harris) hunts down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left the ghost of Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.

Hatchet III

The latest in a low-budget slasher franchise that kicked off with a bang over six years ago and whose first sequel encountered controversy during its brief, unrated theatrical run, Hatchet III is about to unleash some more gruesome carnage and sick fun this summer. MPI/Dark Sky Films have announced the movie’s release date and unveiled its first teaser trailer.

You can watch the trailer here below.

Hatchet III, which marks the directorial debut of BJ McDonnell (a camera operator on the first two movies as well as last summer’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), was filmed in Louisiana in May and June of 2012. Back for the third installment are Danielle Harris as the series’ resilient heroine Marybeth and slasher icon Kane Hodder as the monstrous backwoods psychopath Victor Crowley. Joining the cast for this latest bout of gory mayhem are Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Derek Mears (the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Diane Ayala Goldner (Feast), and Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs), among others. Original writer and director Adam Green wrote the screenplay and executive produced.

Hatchet-Victor Crowley

With filming set to kick off this week near Louisiana, the services of a handful of talents have been enlisted for Hatchet III, the third installment in the saga of feared swamp dweller Victor Crowley.

It’s been announced that a trio of new actors have joined the cast, starting with ’80s star Zach Galligan. The actor is best known for playing the lead in the beloved 1984 Joe Dante horror-fantasy Gremlins, as well as Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Galligan also starred in Waxwork and its sequel, and has continued acting in small-budget features with short TV stints sprinkled in here and there since then.

Also joining the cast is Cody Blue Snider, the son of Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider, and popular geek goddess Rileah Vanderbilt.
