Retro Movie Review: ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ (1952) – Fathom Events
Dr. Zaius   |

Singin' in the Rain Gene Kelly Debbie Reynolds fathom events

Singin’ in the Rain is universally renowned as one of the greatest musicals of all time. In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked it as the fifth greatest film ever made. 2017 marks the 65th anniversary of the film’s release in 1952 and to commemorate the event, Fathom Events and TCM’s Big Screen Classic series have brought it back to theaters for two days only. Not only do audiences get to take in a pure classic, but they also get to pay a final respect to the late great Debbie Reynolds, whose career was launched thanks to the film. I have attended and reviewed many of the screenings from Fathom and TCM and this one had the largest crowd by far. The show was sold out; my family and I sat in the very top row, and the 7:00pm show was sold out by 1:30 in the afternoon.

In Memoriam 2016: Remembering Those We Lost In Entertainment

In Memoriam 2016

In Memoriam 2016: Film, Television, Music, Sports, Literature, the Arts…

With 2017 upon us, let’s take one final look back at the luminaries and personalities of the entertainment world who left us in 2016, during a year that seemed more turbulent and taxing than any other in recent memory.

Challenges in the past and challenges ahead, it’s a tough time to live in the world right now with so many changes like a whirling dervish to the senses. While there is much sadness in recognizing and accepting the passing of so many great figures in 2016, it’s the endearing, endless, never-ending fanbase and legacy that will keep each and every one of these names mentioned here (and some are of only cult status, but still enjoy a rabid passionate following as equal as any global figure) alive and well in the consciousness and beyond. In no particular order and apologies in advance if some of your favorites were left off. This was a huge list to go through and what was more painful than compiling this list was the fact that these incredibly talented people are all no longer with us.

MP3 Deal: ‘Singin’ In The Rain – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’
Empress Eve   |

Today’s MP3 deal of the day over at Amazon today is the soundtrack to the movie Singin’ In The Rain for only $2.99.

I know, some of you are kneeling over in shock that I’m writing about music that isn’t metal (hey, that’s not even rock!), but I am still a movie lover, and let me tell you, I LOVE movie soundtracks and scores, especially if they’re from a musical.

This one is a true classic movie and one of the greatest musicals ever. I’m planning on listening to the soundtrack all night and think about my dearly departed loved ones who introduced me to classic movies like Singin’ In The Rain as a child (excuse me, I’m getting verklempt just thinking about it).

The 1952 musical comedy starred the singing and dancing talents of Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds — that’s Princess Leia’s mom for all you geeks out there, and that was enough for me to watch the movie when I was little.
