2014 Christmas Special “Last Christmas”
Directed by Paul Wilmshurst

BBC America
Air Date: Thursday, December 25, 2014

Will she, or won’t she? That is the question hanging over “Last Christmas,” the Doctor Who 2014 Christmas Special. Does Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald stay for Series 9 or not? Real world considerations like contracts aside, there is unfinished business between Clara and the Doctor from the end of Series 8. There was the overt problem of Clara wanting her traveling life with Doctor, but a more challenging career as a teacher and a more settled home life with Danny Pink at the same time. Underneath all that was the problem that Clara and Peter Capaldi‘s Doctor were thrown together about a year ago and they’ve tried to get along as best as they can. Knowing what they now know, do they want to continue or just let it end?

Series 7 continues with the annual Christmas Special of Doctor Who entitled The Snowmen. Doctor Who

Christmas time has come and gone, and with the festive season, as always, we received the gift of a Doctor Who Christmas Special for 2011. The Doctor (Matt Smith) finds himself indebted to Madge Arwell (Claire Skinner), a mother from World War II-era England, for saving his life. The Doctor, after learning that her husband is missing and presumed dead during the war, decides to help provide the best Christmas ever to Madge and her children.

In his effort, he uses technology from TARDIS to create a Christmas present that is, in fact, a dimensional portal to another planet called Androzani Major. Unfortunately one of the children sneak into the present early and begin exploring the world… the Doctor follows only to find that this planet of Christmas trees is not only in risk, but so is Madge and her children.

Rumored for a long time to be a play on a Narnia theme, the buzz has now been verified with the revelation of the special’s title – Doctor Who: The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe. Showrunner Steven Moffat is clearly going with a formula which worked well for the previous special, a play on a classic Dickens yarn and also titled A Christmas Carol.
