The Crow soundtrack title

Relativity’s remake of The Crow has just been one slow-going process. Between the actors and directors leaving, and the studio forced to declare bankruptcy, it is beginning to look like the remake is never going to happen, at least not under the Relativity banner. And now it is about to get worse.

Because of the studio’s financial woes, director Corin Hardy is reportedly just steps away from walking out on the project, which has forced producer Edward Pressman to make the necessary moves to protect the film from being considered as an asset for the studio to sell. More on the story below.

Luke Evans

The long-in-development reboot of The Crow has gone through a vast number of attached talent in its pained journey just to get the end of pre-production, including stars Mark Walhberg and Bradley Cooper, screenwriter Nick Cave, and first assigned director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later). The latest director on the project is F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) and most recently it looked like Tom Hiddleston of Thor and The Avengers was in talks to star in the title role, as was Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood fame.

Well, the news of either Hiddleston or Skarsgard’s imminent casting seems to have been little more than wishful thinking on the part of many because it appears that the role has been filled by Welsh actor Luke Evans, soon to be seen in Fast & the Furious 6 and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Evans, who recently also signed on to star in Universal Pictures’ summer 2014 release Dracula Year Zero, could previously be seen in the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans as well as Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood and the 3D re-do of The Three Musketeers.

The Crow

A remake (or reboot — whatever you want to call it these days) to the 1994 cult classic The Crow has been on the way for quite a while now, but with little information shared. That’s because writer/director Stephen Norrington has been busy working on the script for the duration.

Talking to MTV recently, producer Edward Pressman (who has produced all Crow films thus far) shared that Norrington has finished the script, he thinks that it’s “terrific,” and that they hope to begin filming the movie some time later this year.

Pressman also revealed that they do have an offer out to a “major actor” and that Norrington’s vision is much different than that of Alex Proyas, who handled the ’94 film. Norrington is best known for directing Blade and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and he has also done work in make-up and special effects on titles like Aliens, Alien 3, and Feast.
