The Movie God   |

Pennywise Stephen King's IT

If the look of the new movie adaptation of Stephen King’s IT isn’t quite doing it for you and you’d prefer to stick with the 1990 TV miniseries adaptation starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown, a new documentary is on the way you’ll be interested in learning about.

The documentary is titled Pennywise: The Story of IT, and aims to dig into the story behind the TV miniseries’ creation. The makers of the doc have obtained over two hours of previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage for the project, and have already set up over 20 interview guests, including the great Tim Curry himself.

Indiegogo Spotlight: ‘Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon’ Sequel Comic
The Movie God   |

Behind the Mask Sequel Comic Before the Mask Header Image

We’ve been hearing about a sequel to the 2006 indie horror Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon since 2009, but the project has struggled to find a path to our eyes. Earlier this year the sequel—or “spreemake” as they’re calling it, described as “a mash-up of a sequel, prequel, and remake, that will deconstruct and comment on the archetypes of prequels, sequels and remakes” by director Scott Glosserman—which is titled Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon was once again teased, but some things need to go right before it can happen.

The first step is telling the story of the spreemake in an eight-issue comic, which is an adaptation of the movie’s script. An Indiegogo campaign has been launched for the project, and it serves two purposes: proving that fans actually want more Leslie Vernon, and providing a visual representation of the story they want to tell in the follow-up movie without actually making the movie.

You can read more about the crowdfunding campaign below.

Midichlorians. The Trade Federation. Watto. The coarseness of sand. Jar-Jar freakin’ Binks. Oh, and you can’t forget…. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!”

George LucasStar Wars prequels comprise what is possibly the most controversial motion picture trilogy of all time. Despite grossing hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office and selling countless DVD and Blu-ray copies, Episodes I through III remain a serious bone of contention for ferociously devoted fans of the Star Wars universe for many reasons.

Bradley Weatherholt’s Indiegogo-funded documentary The Prequels Strike Back: A Fan’s Journey provides — through a series of insightful and provocative interviews with open-minded admirers of the films and their thematic elements and links to the original trilogy –- a pointed critical analysis of the prequel trilogy’s multitude of perceived narrative and technical flaws. Rather than serve as the set-up for a rude, feature-length rebuttal of the faults that have fueled many a furious blog post or chatroom discussion, detractors of these unjustly-derided intergalactic adventures to look at those faults once more, but placed in different contexts and interpreted through a series of unbiased points-of-view.

In 1986, German film producer Bernd Eichinger (The Neverending Story) purchased the motion picture rights to Marvel Comics’ first family of bickering cosmic superheroes, the Fantastic Four. Eichinger envisioned making a classy, big-budget adventure with funding from a major studio and the latest in cutting edge visual effects, but no studio was interested. He had until New Year’s Eve 1992 to get the film into production or his rights would revert back to Marvel.

Indiegogo Spotlight: ‘The Order’ Movie From Former ‘Power Rangers’ Stars
Maximus Prime   |

The Order Movie Indiegogo Cover

The 1st season of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers aired when I was in 1st grade, 22 years ago. For years, I made sure to watch each new iteration of the team, enamored by the colorful suits, the martial arts action, and the fact that young people were entrusted with saving the world.

I haven’t watched a new season of Power Rangers in quite some time, but I do, however, follow many of the actors on social media — and for the past month or so, some interesting things have occurred. First, many of the original cast and others changed their Facebook profile images to an intriguing symbol. Next, they began posting cryptic messages and videos, hinting at some sort of joint project. Finally, just last week, the group (including 18 former Power Ranger actors), launched a crowdfunding campaign for a film called The Order. Oh, nostalgia, you’ve made your way back to me.

I recently had the opportunity to interview some of the cast about the project and I’m really excited to share it with you all. You can find that and more below.

Indiegogo Spotlight: ‘Beyond Lovecraft’ Graphic Novel By Rob Moran and Jasper Bark
Waerloga69   |

Beyond Lovecraft art by Rob Moran

H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu stories have had a profound effect on a multitude of people for almost a century. They have inspired any number of books, games, and toys that continues on to this very day. As a matter of fact, I sit here with a Pop! figurine of Cthulhu on my desk inspiring me as I write this article! And having said that, I am proud to be able to present to you a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for Beyond Lovecraft, a wondrous graphic novel that stays true to the original tales by taking the reader to some unpredictable and desolate places via sequential art. Four stories, all tied together with a single theme. What more could you ask for, right?

Well, how about Rob Moran providing all the art? That’s all it took to get me hooked. Well, that and he contacted me personally to let me know about it. I’ve been a fan for years, as his artwork is impeccable. He has a certain noir, macabre twist to much of his work that gives it far more depth than most artists can muster on their best days. He’s teamed up with writer Jasper Bark to create this amazing 96-page graphic novel for us.

NYCC 2015: ‘Con Man’ Panel With Alan Tudyk & Nathan Fillion
Dr. Zaius   |

NYCC 2015: Con Man panel

Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion, Seth Green, and Felicia Day, the stars of Con Man, made an appearance at a panel on Friday at New York Comic-Con to talk about the new web series.

Called an event 13 years in the making, Alan Tudyk (Firefly, I Robot) and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) developed the idea for Con Man in Tudyk’s kitchen. Later, we’d find during the panel that most of the ideas, sans two, were Tudyk’s. Their ideas were to have a show about actors and conventions, and the fans that worship them. The problem: no producers wanted it. Tudyk relayed later that many wanted to mock the fans and portray cosplayers as weirdos instead of devoted lovers of the art. Together they took to Indiegogo and through their devoted fans raised $3.2 million through 46,000 fan donations and did the show as a web series.

‘Empire Strikes Back’ Short ‘Black Angel’ To Become A Feature
The Movie God   |

Black Angel Concept Art

Last month we shared the short film Black Angel, which was made by Star Wars and Alien Academy Award winner and nominee Roger Christian. The short was chosen by George Lucas to play before his sequel The Empire Strikes Back, and then was lost for three decades before resurfacing recently and being restored.

When the short was shared Christian mentioned an exciting announcement coming at the start of this month, and, as expected, that announcement is that he wants to make a feature-length version of Black Angel. And to do so, he’s turning to crowdfunding for fan support. He even already has some cast in place, which includes the great John Rhys-Davies and Rutger Hauer.

You can read more about the project and see a video of Christian talking about the project below.

Kickstarter Launches Indiegogo Crowdfunding Campaign
Waerloga69   |

Kickstarter Logo

In an amazing turn of events, crowdfunding site Kickstarter has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to help cover the cost of revamping their own website. With a modest goal of $10,000, this is sure to be a hit with patrons of both sites.

Referencing the slicker, more modern look of Indiegogo’s homepage, an unnamed Kickstarter executive said that if all goes well, the new site should be up and running within a few weeks of the campaign completing. When asked if it seemed odd that a crowdfunding site was using a different fundraising site to gain the capital needed, the Kickstarter employee (not Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler, Lance Ivy, Fred Benenson, Cedric Howe, Kendel Ratley, Mike McGregor, Justin Kazmark, Tieg Zaharia, Jed Meade, Nicole He, Aaron Suggs, Zack Sears, Stephanie Pereira, Aurora Thornhill, Alex Cox, Andrew Boyajian, Dan Drabik, Brandon Williams, Tomasz Werner, Katherine Pan, Bridget Best, Shannon Ferguson, Niina Pollari, Ian Scott, Luke Crane, Michal Rosenn, Christopher Wright, Michael Stewart, Jake Loeterman, Shayne Barr, John Dimatos, Jamie Tanner, David Gallagher, George Schmalz, Amanda Niu, Terry Romero, Hayley Rosenblum, Carol Benovic, Jeremy Salfen, Justin Jones, Taylor Moore, Megan McFerren, Liz Cook, Natalie Ung, Julio Terra, Katie Needs, Victoria Rogers, Julie Wood, Nitsuh Abebe, Alex Proba, Chase Pashkowich, Nick Yulman, Craig Engler, Margot Atwell, Sam Hockley-Smith, David Peter, Dana Haynes, Alfie Palao, Charlie Mirisola, Margaret Raimondi, Maris Kreizman, Jes Nelson, Sara Rowghani, Jon Leland, Melissa Wong, Win Giamportone, Owen Katz, Katie Mandel, Alex Hudson, Emma Tangoren, Ryan Closner, Nigel Warren, Kevin Showkat, Keith Holjencin, Jackson Lynch, Scott Briggs, Marissa Demers, Christine Tadler, Ben Linsay, Renee Park, Dan Schoenbrun, Jason Goss, James Turnbull, Catie Myers-Wood, Dina Neishtadt, Kilian McMahon, Willis Plummer, Travis Brace, Susanna Brumm, Meg Heim, Ben Cole, Rebecca Poulson, Kewhyun Kelly-Yuoh, Lindsey Smith, Stephanie Li, Julie Swoope, Noah Kardos-Fein, Maren Mitchell, Sid Orlando, Rebecca Sliter, Sophia Ng, Chris Beck, Lili Burns, Willa Koerner, Raul Reymundi, Susan Hinton, or Lena Imamura) explained that with Indiegogo they got to keep whatever they raised, making it a win/win situation regardless of the outcome. Will this be a success?

Broken Lizard Launches ‘Super Troopers 2’ Crowdfunding Campaign
The Movie God   |

Broken Lizard's Super Troopers 2

Last we heard, the long-awaited sequel to Broken Lizard’s cult comedy hit Super Troopers was the next movie for the comedy group with hopes of filming that summer. At the time the script was written and turned in, and a studio was in place for distribution. All that was left to do was to secure financing. That was just about a year ago now.

Unfortunately securing that financing appears to have been more difficult than anticipated. So naturally the Broken Lizard gents are looking where everyone looks these days when securing financing proves difficult: the fans. Thanks to the crowdfunding boom, projects like Super Troopers 2 still have a chance to be made…though much help is needed. That’s where you come in.
