This one was new for me. I’m not sure how it has eluded me for so long, but I must admit that I am smitten. Black Hammer Volume 1: Secret Origins collects the first six issues of the series into one volume that tells a cohesive story all the while exploring what it is to be alone and yet together. This dilemma is the result of a sacrifice gone too far. Not to say that the group wasn’t grateful, just that isolation and protection does not always equal freedom.

Okay, first off, if I have to try to convince you to buy a comic that contains eight premiere issues for a measly six bucks then I might just have to reassess what I am doing here.

I have reviewed any number of these titles at different times and I cannot even begin to stress to you how great of a deal this is. Dark Horse Comics continues to amaze me with their marketing strategies. I can think of no better way to test out some new comics than with this compilation. Folks, I present to you Dark Horse Number Ones!

Comic Review: Descender #1

Descender #1 review

Descender #1
Written by Jeff Lemire
Illustrated by Dustin Nguyen
Lettered by Steve Wands
Cover by Dustin Nguyen
Image Comics
Release Date: March 4, 2015
Cover Price: $2.99

I took a break from my usual horror reads this week to dip into a bit of sci-fi with Descender #1 by Jeff Lemire from Image Comics. I have absolutely no regrets for that decision.

First of all, take a good, close look at that cover. See that? Yep, that’s watercolor and pencil, and it isn’t just on the cover — it makes up every single page of this book.

Real watercolor and pencil.

Henchman21   |

The GoD List Banner

Each and every week, I, “I’m swarming in plague germs!” Henchman 21 and “I bet your lymph nodes are as big as cats!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of March 4, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It’s going to be kind of a short list this week as I’m feeling a bit under the weather and the cold medicine is calling my name. Better wrap this up before I slip into a medicine-induced coma. It’s a menthol eucalyptus-powered GoD List!

First Look: Teaser Image For DC’s ‘Future End’
Henchman21   |

Future's End Blood Moon Teaser Banner

DC Comics had some fun in honor of the Blood Moon eclipse that occurred last night. DC has released one of their patented teasers for The New 52: Future’s End, the company’s next weekly series, set to launch May 7, 2014.

As you can see from the image below, you can get a hint of what Jeff Lemire, Brian Azzarello, Dan Jurgens, and Keith Giffen have planned for their universe spanning tale, including big parts for Batman Beyond and Grifter. Also, is that Tim Drake in his original costume in the upper left hand corner, hanging out with Booster Gold?

Take a look at the image below and let us know if you’re looking forward to The New 52: Future’s End.

The GoD List: Comics For August 7, 2013
Henchman21   |

The GoD List banner

Each and every week, I, “Fullmetal Alchemist” Henchman21, and “Heavy Metal Alchemist” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 7, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It’s another one of those weeks where a lot of my favorite series have new issues, but we also get a few new series to sink our teeth into. And sadly we see the end of a series that just couldn’t find its audience. We’ve got all that plus so much more, so let’s not waste anymore time as we get ready for another edition of The GoD List!

Each and every week “Any Way You Want It” MK2Fac3 and “Don’t Stop Believin’” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 1, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Okay, I don’t have time to write much this week, but I’ll give you a rundown on a few comics that you should check out today. No time today for trades or love, Dr. Jones. Also, most of the trades out today are kind of boring. Go back and pick up the newest Darwyn Cooke Parker book if you haven’t already. All right? Let’s do this GoD List thing.
