Last week on The Strain, we get Gus’s (Miguel Gomez) backstory on why he wants to save his strigoi mother (other than boys and their moms). His uncles took out his father after he abused their sister once too often. He became the man of the house early. In the present day, he ended up having to put her down after she almost got Angel (Joaquín Cosio). Setrakian and Fet (David Bradley and Kevin Durand) interrogated a few key people, thanks to Palmer (Jonathan Hyde), but they missed out on getting Eichorst (Richard Sammel), who had just given us a nasty little demonstration of the blood factory. Eph (Corey Stoll) and Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) recovered the original JFK black box, but the Master’s sound waves made Dutch really sick. When she recovered, her and Eph had sex. Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) told the ancients to get off their asses. As they do, Eichhorst invaded the ancients lair with lots of bloodthirsty friends, which caused them to fight, and they were pretty good for some desiccated husks. That is, until they explode.

Season 4 Episode 8: “Portage”

Written and created by Michael Hirst
Starring Travis Fimmel, Clive Standen, Katheryn Winnick, Alexander Ludwig, Gustaf Skarsgard, Maude Hirst, Morgane Polanski, Lothaire Bluteau, Linus Roache, Jennie Jacques, Moe Dunford, Alyssa Sutherland, Amy Bailey
The History Channel
Air Date: Thursday, April 7th, 2016, 10:00pm

Last week on Vikings, Harbard (guest star Kevin Durand) was generous with the love of the women of Kattegat. The Vikings were defeated at Paris. Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) realized how Rollo (Clive Standen) betrayed him. He screamed to Rollo, “This is how you repay my love!” I felt that. I think Gisla (Morgane Polanski) also felt the feelings Rollo still has for Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). Rollo anticipated their every move and Helga (Maude Hirst) almost died. Ragnar did save Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) from drowning though. Ecbert (Linus Roache) went to Mercia to talk with Prince Wigstan, who basically handed it over.

Daredevil, Season 2 promo poster

Marvel’s Daredevil
Season 2 Episodes 7-9
Created by Drew Goddard
Starring Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Elodie Yung
Netflix
Premiere date: Friday, March 18th, 2016

Daredevil season 2 debuted a week before Batman V Superman is set to hit theaters, and while the TV superhero shows were on a brief hiatus. The definition of perfect timing, Daredevil is the talk of the watercooler, and with Netflix uploading shows all at once, the binger will have no crossover effect. And binge you should, because this is an absolutely epic season. Every time I think I’ve seen far and away the best episode, the next one starts and it’s a whole new level of “Holy Shit” and “Oh My God” and “Are you kidding me!?” We left off with The Punisher awaiting trial for his murders and Elektra causing all sorts of personal and professional issues for Matt “Daredevil” Murdock…

Before the Vikings 3.9 “Breaking Point” review, let’s recap last week. Some spoilers! Watch the episode before you read past the recap.

Last week’s “To The Gates” episode was action-packed pretty much throughout, with most of it taken up with the big attack and battle. I swear I almost had a heart attack and texted my editor that they killed another character off, when I saw Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) with that blank corpse stare. And then I had to text “My bad!” when he wasn’t. THEN, I thought Rollo (Clive Standen) died and I was set to quit the show. And THEN I thought Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) died by fire, and I was ok with that, but I was wrong about that, too. I couldn’t even really write about it last week, because that would be giving everything away. I needed a drink after that episode.

Season 3 Episode 2: “The Wanderer”

Starring Travis Fimmel, Clive Standen, Katheryn Winnick, Jessalyn Gilsig, George Blagden, and Gustaf Skarsgard.
The History Channel
Air Date: Thursday, February 26, 2015, 10:00pm

Last week on Vikings 3.1 “Mercenary“, the core Kattegat crew could not leave fast enough for Wessex to get what King Ecbert (Linus Roache) promised, leaving behind sad Aslaug, Siggy, and Helga (Alyssa Sutherland, Jessalyn Gilsig, and Maude Hirst, respectively). Of course he wants more.

Ragnar and company agree to fight for Princess Kwenthrith’s (Amy Bailey) stolen crown of Mercia by her father and brother. Bloody and bloodier it gets with Ragnar showing off his cunning battle strategy. Meanwhile King Ecbert gets his flirt on with Lagertha (Katherine Winnick), Athelstan (George Blagden) providing the translation, as they go to farm the lands. Lagertha left her lands in the hands of possible usurpers, so maybe she shouldn’t stay away too long.
