Oblivion Gate

It was revealed at E3 2016 that a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was on the way this fall.

But, while this news was exciting, many fans of The Elder Scrolls games wondered why Bethesda didn’t remaster some of the older games in the series, such as Morrowind and Oblivion, first. There is a reason for this, and Bethesda VP of marketing Pete Hines shared what it is.

Oblivion Premiere header

On my way last week to the Black Sabbath listening party in Hollywood, there was a buzz in the air as the premiere of the new Tom Cruise scifi vehicle Oblivion, was getting ready for Tinseltown. The premiere took place at the Dolby Theatre (formerly known as the Kodak Theatre) on Hollywood Blvd between Highland Ave. and La Brea., which is pretty much the hub of all things entertainment in America.

As the following photos below will show, fans got an exclusive glimpse of the ship – which we talked to you about in our 2013 WonderCon coverage. Be sure to also check out our review of the film.

2077: Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is one of the last remaining drone repairmen stationed on Earth, which was nearly destroyed by an alien invasion 60 years earlier.

As part of a massive operation to extract the planet’s remaining vital resources, Jack lives in a Skytower floating thousands of meters above post-apocalyptic New York.

He is joined by Victoria “Vika” Olsen (Andrea Riseborough), a by-the-books navigator with whom he shares a romantic interest. In his Bubbleship – a futuristic hybrid of a jet fighter and a Bell 47 helicopter – Jack works with Vika to repair downed drones and dispatch “Scavs” – the aliens who turned Earth into a wasteland.

Their mission is almost complete. In two weeks Jack and Vika will leave Earth behind forever as they travel to Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. There they will join a lunar colony established by Earth’s survivors. The fateful arrival of a stranger (Olga Kurylenko), however, triggers a series of events that forces Jack to question everything he knows about the war and its aftermath.

Fallout 3 Image

Every couple of years, gamers start to get really excited about what the next big game from Bethesda Softworks will be. Oh hell, who are we kidding? Gamers start getting excited for the next Bethesda game the day after the company releases a new title. This excitement stems from their two biggest franchises, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. The two franchises are very different—one being set in a fantasy world, the other in a desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland—while remaining similar in terms of offering massive and immersive RPG experiences.

Their last big title was of course The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim back in 2011 (has it been that long already?!), and rumors have already been circling about what their next game might be. We still know nothing officially, but, judging by a recent comment by Bethesda VP Pete Hines, we might soon find out what it is we’re already twitching with excitement for.
