We are 3 episodes (in 2 weeks) in to The Bastard Executioner, Kurt Sutter‘s highly anticipated next project after his highly acclaimed Sons of Anarchy, and if you’ve been watching… week 1 and week 2 have been worth the wait. This 14th century period piece follows Wilkin Brattle, a former soldier weary of the fight, forced to play an executioner while lying in wait for vengeance. Modern day actors aren’t just born swordfighting, British-accented, horseriding masters, they need serious training to make their work look authentic. How do they do that?

It has finally arrived! The highly anticipated period piece The Bastard Executioner, created by Kurt Sutter, has sliced its way into our television screens and it is as bloody as we expected. I had to look away many times. This is the tale of a warrior, in the time of King Edward, who only wishes to lay down his sword. Fate has something else in store for him, as he must lift up his sword once again to mete out justice in the land.

If you haven’t caught the 2-hour pilot yet, be warned, as there are spoilers ahead!

“I’m the knight you sent to his death at the hands of the hoarding Scots.”

FX has released The Bastard Executioner “First Look” which brings some familiar cast interviews in with some new ones, along with scenes never spotted before. This period drama, set durng the reign of King Edward I, is about a war weary soldier, who is forced to pick up a sword again.

FX has released another, longer video for The Bastard Executioner, with cast commentary in between the delicious little episode scenes (most likely from the pilot). Lee Jones (Wilkin Brattle – the Executioner), Katey Sagal (Annora of the Alders), Kurt Sutter (Creator and also playing The Dark Mute), Elen Rhys (Petra Brattle), and Stephen Moyer (Miles Corbett) all speak of the show in between scenes.

The Executioner is coming!

If you could not tell from the onslaught of coverage from GoD, Kurt Sutter‘s The Bastard Executioner, is coming. And now we know exactly when it will arrive. FX keeps teasing us (me), while I’m watching The Strain and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, with these 20-second teasers. I don’t know how they pack such ominous tidings into such a small timespan, but pack it they did. The “Dark Age” teaser is in slow motion, angry, and of course… dark.
