Emmys 2017: Winners Of The 69th Annual Emmy Awards
Empress Eve   |

Hulu The Handmaid's Tale TV show - winner 2017 Emmys

The 69th Annual Emmy Awards ceremony was broadcast live tonight on CBS from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, with Late Night‘s Stephen Colbert hosting for his first time.

The Handmaid’s Tale and Veep took home the big wins in their respective categories — drama and comedy — while the limited series Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman (who also won); Donald Glover and his series Atlanta; and long-running sketch series Saturday Night Live all took home their fair share of awards as well. For SNL, guest star Alec Baldwin grabbed the Emmy for his popular repeated portrayal of President Donald Trump.

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus made history tonight when she snagged her sixth consecutive win for best actress in a comedy series, which is the most Emmy awards won by a performer for one role. The HBO show went on to win the Best Comedy Series award.

See below for the list of Emmys 2017 nominees and winners.

Bruce Campbell & Lucy Lawless On ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ (Video)
Dr. Zaius   |

Ash vs Evil Dead Episode 101 Bruce Campbell

Since Stephen Colbert took over The Late Show from David Letterman, the satirist has spent much of his time continuing what he did over on Comedy Central, mocking the politics of the day. He has worked hard to get as many hopeful Presidential candidates on his show as possible. So it was a pleasant surprise to see on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert guest list on Tuesday night, November 10, was the stars of my favorite new show of the season: Ash vs Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless.

Check out some of that interview, plus bonus clip of Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless giving acting tips here below.

Farewell, Jon Stewart: The Last ‘Daily Show’
Dr. Zaius   |

Jon Stewart Image

I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in a family that ritualistically watched ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. I loved history and journalism, and ended up teaching high school level history. The calming, straight forward, no nonsense, nonpartisan news days have long since passed. With the advent and expansion of cable news, and the big money filing in, it’s incredibly difficult to find real, genuine news. As channels like Fox News went over-the-top conservative, stations like MSNBC had to hit back equally to the left. 16 years ago a phoenix rose over the garbage heap of the phony “real” news and gave us the greatest fake news show ever. 16 years after taking over for Craig Kilborn, Jon Stewart left The Daily Show last night, in perfect circumstances… as the Republicans were holding their first Presidential debates on Fox News.

‘The Colbert Report’: Stephen Colbert’s Celebrity Singalong Send-Off (Video)
Empress Eve   |

Stephen Colbert The Colbert Report series finale

Last night, Stephen Colbert signed off in the final episode of The Colbert Report, his long-running political satire talk show on Comedy Central, and was surrounded by celebrity ensemble to give him a proper send-off.

As the series finale drew to a close, Colbert began to sing the 1939 British song “We’ll Meet Again,” and as he walked across the studio, his friend and fellow Comedy Central host Jon Stewart appeared. The two joined hands, then walked over to Randy Newman playing the tune on the piano. Once the first verse was over, the cameras panned across the studio to show celebrities and former guest singing along. Amongst the crowd were Bryan Cranston, Patrick Stewart, George Lucas, Willie Nelson, James Franco, Barry Manilow, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Peter Frampton, Cindi Lauper, New York Mayor Bill DiBlasio, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, and even Big Bird and Cookie Monster!

Watch the heartwarming send-off here below.

President Obama Gives The Word On The Colbert Report

President Barack Obama made an appearance yesterday on The Colbert Report where the U.S. prez took over “The Word” segment of the show, rebranding it “The Decree.” Just before the President took Stephen Colbert‘s seat behind the desk, he told the host, “You’ve been taking a lot of shots at my job, I decided I’m gonna go ahead and take a shot at yours.”

In the segment, Obama took on his “Obamacare” healthcare detractors, reading off the script as if he were Colbert, to humorous effect.

The Movie God   |

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lightsaber

There have been plenty of debates regarding the recently released Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens teaser trailer, as was expected. One of the more heated topics being discussed from the 88-second trailer has been the unique, claymore-esque lightsaber shown above. Some dig it, some loathe it, and some are smartly waiting until they know more about it before forming an opinion on the matter.

On a recent episode of The Colbert Report, Star Wars fan and future Late Show host Stephen Colbert shared his thoughts on the trailer, including a defense of the lightsaber in question. You can see the video below.
