The Midas Flesh #2 preview banner

You’ve all heard the story of Midas, the man with the golden touch (not to be confused with Goldfinger, who was also the man with the golden touch)? Imagine a world where not only was Midas a real person, but also where everything Midas touched turned to gold; not just cups and food, but the very earth beneath him, and even the air he breathed. Imagine he turned the entire world into gold. Now imagine you’re an space traveler in the future and you hear a legend of a planet that is basically one big ball of gold. Such is the world presented in The Midas Flesh from BOOM! Studios.

The first issue introduced readers to Fatty and the rest of his crew, as they look for the source of power that transformed the world. In this second issue, we learn more about the crew, why they’re looking for Midas, and what they plan to do once they find it.

Check out 9 pages of preview art & the solicitation info after the jump and see if this is something that tickles your fancy.

“If God really existed, it would be necessary to abolish him.” –Mikhail Bakunin

Clive Barker and Mark Miller present a deep and philosophical twist in the horror genre by establishing that very scenario in their Next Testament #1 from Boom! Studios.

What if the God that millions believe is their benevolent creator was actually a selfish and bloodthirsty egomaniac? What if that bloodthirsty egomaniac was released from a prison that had trapped him for thousands of years? There would be some serious trouble, you can guarantee that. That trouble is the basis for the theologically-heavy plot that Barker and Miller have set in motion in the first issue of this ongoing series.

Welcome back! Part three of Ryan North‘s BMO virus arc in Adventure Time the comic series continues at a moderate pace. Let’s catch you up. In Adventure Time #11 Marceline, Finn and Jake are invited by BMO to play Super Guts Punch 3 inside his “MAIN BRAIN GAME FRAME.” They play and win only to discover that BMO has been hacked.

Adventure Time #12 is sidetracked by an unannounced visit from Lumpy Space Princess(a character I think is best in *very* small doses). Elsewhere, the team decides to track down the evil wizard Ewlbo who has hacked their friend, BMO. They formulate a plan to have another Awesome Wizard Battle and use it to suss out the culprit. (Check out animated series episode Wizard Battle to see what happened the first time that…well…wizards battled in Ooo.) Each character’s way to interview the wizards of Ooo is as unique and amusing as their poster drawings advertising the ruse battle. Their plan is a bust but BMO continues to spazz out from his operating system being hacked. He eventually leads the trio to a bunker where other hacked robots in Ooo have gathered.

Let me be straight with you. I adore Adventure Time on Cartoon Network. This means that I am automatically drawn to anything that carries the name. It also means that I’ll be twice as critical. The best parts of Adventure Time, after the stories, are the insane animation. I was a bit worried how this wonderful series would play out in comics form. There are other TV series, animated and live-action, that have let me down when they crossed mediums. After reading Adventure Time #11 I have to say that my fears were unfounded.

Issue #11 is written by Ryan North and is a new arc in the Kaboom production of the comic series. A perfect jumping on point for new readers, including this reviewer.
