Black Panther Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger

The fallout of Henry Cavill‘s exit from the role of Superman as a part of Warner Brothers’ DC Extended Universe continues. Of course, the next step for the studio is to find Cavill’s replacement, and it didn’t take them too long to come up with a brilliant name. New reports say that the studio is considering Creed star Michael B. Jordan to play the new Man of Steel.

This obviously would be a huge departure for the hero who has normally been portrayed as Caucasian. However, the studio is also putting a higher priority on Supergirl. So before we start cheering, we’ve got to wait for more than just a consideration. Much more on the reports below.

Syfy's Krypton

Creators of the upcoming Syfy series Krypton were on hand at DC’s pop-up SXSW store this weekend to share what fans can expect from a Superman TV show, which doesn’t actually include Superman himself.

For those living under a rock, Krypton is a prequel series set about 200 years before the explosion of the planet Krypton, which comic geeks will know is the event that led to baby Kal-El to be sent off in a rocket headed for Earth. As such, the show will focus on Superman’s grandfather Seg-El, father Jor-El, and a smattering of characters from the greater DC universe. And since the planet Krypton orbits a red sun, Kryptonians won’t exactly have the sort of powers we’re used to seeing in Metropolis, so to speak. Still, Krypton‘s show creators explained that this makes for fertile ground when it comes to storytelling.

Superman Logo

While past reboots of Superman have put a greater focus on the Man of Steel’s life as reporter Clark Kent, newly hired DC Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis’ take on the character will be closely tied to the ideals of good journalism, the scribe explained during a panel at this year’s SXSW.

“I actually spent the day shadowing an Oregonian [journalist], just to show you how important the daily planet is to the stories we’ll be telling,” Bendis told Geeks Of Doom in response to a question about how the current climate of “fake news” and misinformation currently plaguing society might impact the storytelling. “On top of that, Journalism [is] under siege in my lifetime like it’s never been before.”
