Matt Reeves Says ‘The Batman’ Is A Standalone Film That Is Not A Part Of The DCEU
eelyajekiM   |

Ben Affleck as Batman

If there was one DCEU film that has been giving Warner Bros. the biggest headache, it would have to be The Batman. The film which would see Ben Affleck reprise his role as the titular character has been going through a series of behind-the-scenes troubles that have prevented it from entering production. Affleck stepped down as the director because he felt unable to give the film the attention it needed. Then came the rumors that he no longer wanted to be Batman. And now there is word that Warner Bros. will be launching a new banner with DC, that will tell new and unique stories with new actors playing iconic characters that will be separate from the DCEU, such as the just announced Joker origins film.

Now I bring that up because it appears that The Batman is heading in the same direction. In a recent interview director Matt Reeves says the film is a standalone, and is not a part of DC’s extended universe. More on the story below.

Ben Affleck as Batman

There comes a point in time where we have to ask ourselves if there’s going to be any good news about Ben Affleck and The Batman. Since Affleck joined the DCEU, he’s been in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, both were marred by negative reviews for a variety of reasons. Then there was the pressure to direct a great Batman film, which he took himself out of.

So while Matt Reeves taking the helm may be a sigh of relief, there’s still the rumor of Affleck wanting out of his obligation to star as the Caped Crusader as well. Now there’s word that the at execs at WB are working on a deal to make that happen, but in a graceful manner. More on the story below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Since WB has brought in War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves to helm The Batman, fans have been excited about the prospect of him bringing a detective noir aspect to Gotham City.

As cool as that sounds, the director is hoping to make The Batman his trilogy. But he also realizes that it is a very ambitious idea. Check out what he had to say about it below.

Matt Reeves Talks Emotional Batman Story, ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Caesar Comparison, Christopher Nolan
The Movie God   |

Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition

Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves recently talked about the latest Batman standalone movie, currently known as The Batman. Reeves came on board to direct after Ben Affleck, who also stars, opted out of his directorial duties.

Reeves, who also helmed this month’s War for the Planet of the Apes and its predecessor Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, says he wants to tell an emotional Batman story. He also compared the legendary comic book character to Caesar in the Apes movies (played by Andy Serkis), and talked about what he liked about Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan’s work.

‘The Batman’ Will Be A Noir Detective DC Film
eelyajekiM   |

Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne in Justice League

Batman goes by many names, but none as intellectually imposing as The World’s Greatest Detective. Sure he may have gizmos and gadgets at his disposal, and a lot of it helps him discover clues about the criminal underworld. But we really haven’t seen a film where those same detective skills are at the forefront of the character.

However, it appears that director Matt Reeves wants to bring a noir style to the world of The Batman. Pull down those Venetian blinds, and read more about what Reeves has planned for the Caped Crusader.

‘The Batman’ Script Getting Complete Overhaul; Won’t Start Shooting Until 2018
eelyajekiM   |

Batman v Superman Ben Affleck Bat Signal

The Batman has been in a production stall ever since the title was announced. Despite having then-director Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns writing the script with Chris Terrio doing the rewrites, and Affleck bowing out as director only to have Matt Reeves take his place, the film has yet to shoot a single scene. While the box office speaks for itself, critics have not been kind to the DCEU films, and things can only get worse with more behind-the-scenes troubles affecting the overall morale.

Now, it is being confirmed that Reeves’ current obligation to War for the Planet of the Apes is forcing the production of The Batman to be pushed back. Also, the script is being rewritten from scratch. More on the story below.

Rumor: Ben Affleck Doesn’t Want To Be The Batman Anymore
eelyajekiM   |

Ben Affleck as Batman

Before we get into this, let’s just start by saying that this is just a rumor.

There is no confirmation yet. But there is a rumor, and I emphasize the word rumor, that Ben Affleck doesn’t want to be Batman anymore. The actor has played the Dark Knight twice already, with his third being in the upcoming Justice League. He was poised to direct the hero’s standalone feature The Batman with a script he had written with Geoff Johns. However, he suddenly dropped out, forcing Warner Bros. to enter talks with Matt Reeves to take his place. More on the story below.
