Dragon*Con 2012: ‘The Guild’ Panel
Zenestex   |

Dragon*Con 2012: The Guild panel

Every year at Dragon*Con, The Guild panel always ends up being my favorite of the convention. This panel always bring tons of laughs and is suprisingly informative. This year’s panel featured the entire Knights of Good cast: Felicia Day, Sandeep Parikh, Jeff Lewis, Amy Okuda, Robin Thorsen, and Vincent Caso and it was hilarious. The cast has great chemistry and good-naturedly ribbed each other and the audience through the entire event. Felicia Day moderated and immediately opened it up to a fan Q&A.

Felicia Day noted that The Guild: Season 6 just wrapped up shooting a day and a half ago and its release will come SOON. No specific release date or time-frame was specified. Also noteworthy was that Jeff Lewis’ baby makes a cameo appearance in the new season and he’s got another baby on the way. Congratulations from Geeks of Doom, Jeff!

Beginning as a webisode series, The Guild follows main character Cyd Sherman, otherwise known as Codex, who is grappling with her obsession (addiction) with online gaming. Participating in a MMORPG (resembling World of Warcraft, but referred to only as "The Game" in the show), Codex is teamed with a guild known as the Knights Of Good.

The Guild: Volume 2 collects the one-shot comic released for each member of the Knights of Good: Vork, Tink, Bladezz, Clara, and Zaboo. Each comic delves into the characters’ lives away from The Game and sheds a little more light on their personalities and motivations. These stories are not exactly earth-shattering revelations, but they’re brief, fun, focused explorations into the characters that fans love. Watching at least the first season of The Guild web series is a prerequisite to reading this collection. However, if you have not yet read the first volume of The Guild, fear not, this volume completely stands on its own.

Fans of The Guild undoubtedly have their favorite Knights of Good characters. Mine is the leader of the Knights of Good, Vork. He’s obsessively cheap and orderly. He’s also incredibly literal; my favorite scene in this chapter is the very beginning where he reveals why he plays the game the way he does. In this comic, we discover that Vork takes care of his retiree grandfather. While Vork follows rules to the letter, his loose cannon grandfather aligns somewhere around Chaotic Good—possibly Evil. In this play on opposites, Vork must reconcile his differences with his grandfather and learn to compromise with his inferiors—er, guildmates.

Comic Review: The Guild: Fawkes #1

The Guild: Fawkes is a one-shot, backstory comic for one of the best characters in Felicia Day‘s insanely popular web series. If you don’t already know what The Guild is, then firstly, shame on you. Secondly, this comic will probably not make much sense to you; it’ll just be a story about some kilted sociopath who oddly resembles Wil Wheaton. You should probably watch all five seasons of The Guild to truly appreciate this comic. Hey, the web series is short, free, and hilarious. You have no excuses.

Back in February, Dark Horse Comics released a preview image of the cover, the first ever glimpse of Fawkes’ in-game avatar. The character looked amazing. Not how I would have pictured Fawkes — just infinitely cooler. I was floored and instantly said, “I’m so gonna cosplay Fawkes at DragonCon.” Yeah, I’m a complete mark for this whole Guild metaverse thing.

Henchman21   |

Dragon Age

Today marks the release of the first episode of Dragon Age: Redemption, a new web series based on the popular BioWare video game series.

The series stars Felicia Day (The Guild) and Doug Jones (Hellboy) and is produced by Day’s own production company, Knight of Good. The series focuses on Tallis (Day), an elf working for the Qunari, one of the groups in the fictional world of Dragon Age. She is tasked to track down Saarebas (Jones) a renegade mage of the Qunari who has escaped prison. But why am I telling you about it when you should just be watching it yourself.

One of my favorite web series out on the web is The Guild and when I found out that Dark Horse was coming out with a one-shot comic book about the characters from the show I just knew I had to read it.

The Guild: Clara in particular is about Clara who is the lovable but ignorant member of the group. The story starts with an in-game meeting in the MMORPG that they play, while in the meeting Clara’s husband starts getting angry with her about not cleaning up their bedroom that has all of their moving boxes from 10 months back. He gives her an ultimatum that if she doesn’t clean the room by the end of the weekend, she can’t play the game for a week. Clara, while cleaning the room with her kids, stumbles upon all of her keepsakes and starts telling the stories behind each one. Her husband comes home and is surprised that she has kept all of these keepsakes.

Geeks of Doom Invades: Dragon*Con 2011

The Guild PanelThe leading ladies from hit web series The Guild made their way to Atlanta this weekend to join in the geeky celebration that is Dragon*Con 2011. And fortunately for us, they even participated in some panels about the show.

Amy Okuda (Tinkerballa), Robin Thorsen (Clara), and creator/star Felicia Day (Codex) spoke about their past experiences working on The Guild as well as what fans can expect from the next few episodes and future seasons of the show.

If you didn’t already know (and if you’re reading this far into the article, you probably should), The Guild began its fifth season in late July. The most recent episode, Revolving Doors, aired on the show’s official website this week.

‘The Guild’ Creator Felicia Day To Star In Live-Action ‘Dragon Age’ Web Series
The Movie God   |

Everyone knows Felicia Day as the creator of the ultra-popular web-series, The Guild, and as one of the great Geek Goddesses of this Earth of ours. She’s also known from her work on things like Joss Whedon’s hit show and musical Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.

Now, after offering her voice to a role in Fallout: New Vegas, Day is stepping back into the realms of video games. It’s been announced that the actress will star in a six-episode web series based on the highly successful BioWare titles Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II.

The live-action series, titled Dragon Age: Redemption, will also be set in Ferelden, where Day will play an original character named Tallis. Of her character, Day said “Tallis is headstrong, she fights dirty, and she has a really sarcastic sense of humor,” she says. “I wanted to bring a modern sensibility to a fantasy character in a fantasy world.”

DVD Review: The Guild Season 3

The Guild
Season 3 DVD
Directed Sean Becker
Starring Felicia Day, Jeff Lewis
Release date: May 25, 2010

Are you a gamer? Have you ever played an M.M.O.R.P.G.? Do you like comedy? If you said yes to any of these questions, then The Guild is a show for you. This is one of my favorite shows and every time the DVDs come out, I buy them right away. The Guild: Season 1 DVD was no exception as I was extremely excited for this season, as much if not more than I was the first two seasons. As with Kevin Smith movies, the special features make it worth the price alone.

Basically, The Guild follows a group of World of Warcraft players, although it isn’t referred to as that specifically it is meant to be that game, who form a guild and through the guild discuss their issues. Most of the time they don’t realize that they are helping each other become less dysfunctional. All of them have a different personality and different social issues and they all need each other to call each other on their crap. This is the basics of the show as a whole.
