Invincible Universe #6 starts with people in the control room of GDA Headquarters in Washington D.C. watching the big screen. There’s a man covered in blood screaming the end of the United Nations. General Cho, after slaughtering many people in the U.N. headquarters, swats off the attacking squad by breaking all of Monster Girl’s bones in a blur, then he disappears.

The story, starting out loud, slowly reveals all the details as to how the event was even able to happen. Through this, we see how Cecil, Director of the Global Defense Agency, comes to a conclusion that will change how they operate and how they interact with the world in issues to come. The artwork is just as awesome, strong and bold, and fits it well.

Guarding the Globe, Volume 1 is an interesting comic. I didn’t have anything invested in the characters or the book itself, but I was pleasantly surprised. But, not as much as I’d wanted to be.

Writers Robert Kirkman and Benito Cereno sure know how to write a giant, sprawling superhero team vs super villain team epic, earth shattering story. I just wish I cared a little bit more. And I wish it wasn’t so cluttered. My first problem was that I barely knew any of the characters in the book, which, I’ll admit, was my fault. I’m not a huge fan of the Image Comics’ superhero universe, so almost all of these characters were foreign to me. That being said, I wish they would’ve spent a little more time introducing the characters…because there are a TON of characters in this book. It boils down to a double-page spread with each character getting a “This is…Kaboomerang!”

After finding out how much of a fan Barack Obama was of comic books and specifically, Spider-Man, Marvel made sure that they got to work on an issue where the two meet up.

In conjunction with the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama, Marvel is teaming up the President-Elect with the everyone’s favorite webslinging superhero in Amazing Spider-Man #583, “Spidey Meets the President!”

The story, written by Zeb Wells with art by Todd Nauck and Frank D’Armata, occurs in Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day, where an old Spidey nemesis will try to thwart the swearing in ceremony of the 44th President of the United States.

The issue #583 will be on sale at comic shops on January 14, 2009, and will also have a special variant cover featuring Obama and Spidey by artist Phil Jimenez.
