Some interesting news here, especially fans of the extremely popular Alfonso Cuarón film, Children of Men, which starred Clive Owen — or even the the novel by P.D. James from which the film was based.
SciFi is reporting that Battlestar Galactica Executive Producer David Eick is writing a pilot script for a TV show based on the above-mentioned movie/novel.
Eick says “It’s really taking root more in the origins of the novels in that it will focus on the cultural movement in which young people become the society’s utter focus.”
For those who don’t know, the story takes place a short time in the future where women are no longer fertile and we as a race can no longer expand and evolve; the very last generation of all mankind creeping slowly toward inevitable extinction. In the film, a pregnant woman is discovered and she becomes the hope for all humanity; I assume that this element could also come into play with the show if it is indeed produced.
I think this is a great idea and I really hope it ends up working out. With such a unique storyline and complex elements, there’s so much that could be done here; it could really be a great new television offering featuring a different kind of Science Fiction story.
I would welcome it. One of my favorite films of 2006.
