Geeks of Doom Invade SDCC 2008

I’m sitting here at Summit Entertainment’s Twilight panel at the San Diego Comic-Con and I’m going to tell all of you fans exactly the kind of stuff you want to know.

Oh, and in case you want to do how I know what you want to know, it’s because I’m currently sitting in a large hall with thousands of screaming — and I mean screamingTwilight fans, so I’m getting a sense of what’s important here.

Twilight

Straight to the point: When Robert Pattinson, who plays the sexy vampire Edward Cullen, was asked what it was like “to play a super-hot vampire” it took a few minutes for him to try and give an answer because the crowd went ape-shit. “I can’t even hear anything,” he said, stumbling over his words. He explained that he didn’t even really see himself in that light, though it was obvious by the crowd’s reaction that no one believed him.

One young lady just stepped up to the mic and asked Pattinson, “How does it feel to be one of the hottest guys in [couldn’t hear over the screams], because I want YOU, baby, woo hoo!” As Pattinson struggled to answer, I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off watching my friend David Chen of /Film sitting beside me holding his head. That question was so awesome.

Wait, wait, that question’s been topped, because Pattinson was just asked, “Boxers, or briefs, or nothing?”

Some other hot items:

— When Kristen Stewart — who plays Edward’s love interest, the human Bella — was asked what attracted her to the role, she said, “Well, there was the audition scene with Robert on Catherine’s bed,” referencing the hot love scene the duo used for their auditions for director Catherine Hardwicke.

— When Pattinson was asked what attracted him to the role, there was so much screaming he said he couldn’t concentrate. Giving up on giving a thought-providing answer, he said, “I just wanted to play the hottest vampire in the world .. it hurts me to think of myself.”

— Talking about unexpected or spontaneous happenings during the filming, the other cast members outed Pattinson by mentioning a certain kissing scene where Pattinson got a little too involved in the scene and ended up falling off the bed and onto the floor.

Twilight

Favorite Edward and Bella moments:

Pattinson’s: When Edward first meets Bella and he tries to intimate her, but she’s not intimidated by Edward.

Stewart’s: The first scene where the couple has to be separated when she’s going to Phoenix. Also, a scene where Bella puts her finger in Edward’s mouth and says, “You want a taste?” and he doesn’t do it.

Author Stephenie Meyer: Meyer said her favorite scene is in Book 4! (The fourth book in the Twilight series is due out next month.) But from Twilight, it’s Edward and Bella’s conversation in the hospital hallway where he wants her to butt out, but she wants to know the truth.

Hardwicke: “How long have you been 17?”

Regarding the film’s soundtrack, there will be a song from the band Muse. There was also a hint that Robert Pattinson might have a song on the soundtrack as well, referring to a song called “Bella’s Lullaby” which Pattinson reportedly is composing for the film. This is a song in the Edward plays on the piano for his love Bella.

One clip from the film, which hits theaters December 12, 2008, was shown, of Bella being attacked by the villain James (Cam Gigandet), who is trying to bait Edward into attacking him. Edward does come to rescue Bella and fights it out with James.

Panel attendees: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Cam Gigandet, Rachelle LaFevre (who plays Victoria), Edi Gathegi (who plays Laurant), Taylor Launtner (who plays Jacob), Stephenie Meyer, and Catherine Hardwick.

  6. Wow, poor Rob, that must have been incredibly frightening! I know I wouldn’t have been able to react in a coherent way with people throwing stuff like that at me and interuppting my every answer with how they want to do me. Sheesh. I think he did as well as to be expected! Thanks for the article.

  8. I think I just about fell in the floor laughing with some of those questions. I loved them. Then to find out that Rob fell off the bed because he got too “in to it.” OME!! That is freaking hilarious. I feel kind of bad for the actors though becuase it sounds like they didnt get many words in because of all of the screaming. : ) Anyway, I cant wait for December. I believe the movie is going to be great.

  10. I was there yesterday and it was crazy nd amazing. (I’m actually here right now waiting 4 the watchmen panel to start.) but when you say intimate I think you mean intimidate. And the one girl asked how it felt to be the most wanted man in america. I personally would have loved to hear more from taylor yesterday but it was amazing nonetheless. Cam was hilarious nd awesome. And there were tons of fangirls everywhere! Totally worth the 8 hour drive…
